100% true....and they are a marketing genius...just ask them.

I think eye was talking about hiring Denny Crum in 1977.

Curious what people didn't like about Gold. Was it that bad or was it that any name that wasn't Warriors going to be booed down? I personally didn't think it was good enough to warrant a mascot change, but I think it's a better mascot than Golden Eagles. We're what? One of 47 universities that have Golden Eagles as their mascot? Gold is at least unique.

I think it just came out of nowhere and sounded really dumb.  I still am not really a fan.  I would have taken Golden Avalanche though.  (I think I actually voted for that in the initial round.)

Given that they just removed the retractable pillars by Carpenter and Cobeen last week, I suspect that these will not be installed on 18th Street.

Huh, news to me.  Seems odd.  I wonder if a different, more modern system might be going in.

Yes, I was wondering about Crum in 1977. I got quite a reaction when I stomped on a bag of Rold Gold pretzels into oblivion the day of that announcement. Scared the heck out of some girl 'til she understood what I was doing; at the same time three of my bodies were on the ground laughing.

I think it was a combination of factors...passion for warriors, angst over not being consulted the first time and then turning around and doing the same thing all over again (pissed off both warrior and golden eagle fans), wasn't that original(Stanford, I think Syracuse changed right before us, might be one or two others) and it came from no where.

And, most importantly, Dwyane Wade said no way in hell.

It was a two stage process.  Golden Eagles and Hilltoppers were the final two.

Here is a summary.

Wasn't one of the choice Lightning?  Maybe that was one of the first round choices?

No that was when they changed from Warriors.  The final vote was Lightning and Golden Eagles.

Really the entire nickname episode over the last 20 years has been one f*ck up after another.

Yep.  If they would have just gone back to Hilltoppers in 1994 this issue would be over.

This.

It was so obvious and they screwed it up royally.

Oh well. All it is now is something for all of us oldsters to talk and/or whine about.
