I have spent a lot of years in marketing.  You always look for the unique features that you can maximize.  Marquette has NBA city, Big East/major markets and basketball first as elements that can be used effectively.  I generally agree with Chico on the advantages HE had being showcased at Marquette.

Ellenson benefited a lot more than MU did. Everyone is asking what advantage Ellenson got, but how about MU? We all thought nabbing Ellenson would at least mean a NIT. But we ended up with nothing. We'll get another MU player in the NBA, but that's pretty much it. Not the greatest benefit when we could've used the scholly on a 4 year player that would've developed all last year to help up this year.

We actually lost two scholarships because we needed to get Wally as well. That's two players we could've potentially gotten and developed these last two years.

I agree that Marquette accrues some marginal ancillary benefit from having the Bucks in town. But that has nothing to do with the USP of Marquette Basketball.

If Marquette's value prop hinges on a notional, proximity-based association with a directionally connected affinity group then the University's investment in men's basketball has been an abysmal failure.

By your logic, UWM, Fordham, Tufts, Cleveland State, Detroit Mercy, et al would realize similar benefits.

I have listened to Dodds overhype the Bucks connection and his punctuated posts have confirmed only that he doesn't understand how vesting value in a brand should never aspire to "me too."

From a benefit within the season standpoint I agree.  The benefit to the program and Wojo for landing him and getting him to the NBA is not an inconsequential benefit in recruiting.

GGGG

There are some ancillary benefits of being in an NBA city.  Henry didn't receive any benefit from being in an NBA city.  Scouts go everywhere.  Every game is on television.

I just had this discussion the other day.  I agree with you, however when you get the chance to grab a McDonalds AA you do it.
