Goodluck Okonoboh is 6-10 230 lbs and an elite athlete in the paint. He is from Boston and he was a high school standout. He was a top 30 recruit in the class of 2014 and he played alongside Nerlens Noel, Georges Niang, and Wayne Seldon while spending time at the Tilton School and on BABC AAU. He then transferred to another prep school and played for the MASS Rivals AAU team where he played alongside Noah Vonleh.
- I'd compare his playing style to that of Jaylen Reynolds from Xavier

He committed to UNLV over Ohio St and Indiana but he held offers from the likes of Duke and other top schools. While a Freshman at UNLV he averaged 6 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks per game while shooting 52%. However, when local product with ties to the program Stephen Zimmerman showed up he took most of Okonoboh's minutes. And next year Chris Obekpa(St Johns transfer) is eligible to play. So in December Okonoboh decided to transfer.

I know that a lot of schools have been pursuing him but he has yet to commit anywhere so that is encouraging. I haven't head anything about Wojo being interested in him but who knows. It seems to me that the most important thing to him is playing time and potentially the opportunity to play in the pros. We have a ton of Playing time to offer and we have a great track record of producing pros.

I believe we recruited him the first time around.  A bit weird to announce a transfer and not going anywhere for so long.

Would seem to be a good fit.

Ehh... don't see him being as an offensive guy as Jaylen. Watched Goodluck a ton live when he was in HS.

When you say midseason transfer, remember there is a one year in residence requirement. It's not a 'year off.'.

On a team where we could really use post defense, rebounding, and a guy who can play both the 4 and the 5 without needing a high offensive usage rate, Okonoboh seems ideal. Considering he was recruited by Duke when Wojo was there and Marquette, I'm surprised we haven't been mentioned with him, though has anyone, really?

Pure speculation here, but maybe there is more here to the transfer than a lack of playing time.  Otherwise, why has this transfer gone so oddly?  Does anyone know if he stayed at UNLV for the second semester?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

QuoteGoodluck Okonoboh- 6"9 220 SO C from UNLV
26.7 mpg, 5.7 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 0.7 apg, 0.5 bpg, 2.9 bpg, .521 FG%, .000 3P% (14-15 stats)

Sometimes a player is a complete package. Other times a player has one skill that he does at such an elite level that he can't help but be at the top of teams' transfer wishlists. Okonoboah is the latter. The former top 30 recruit doesn't score well and he doesn't rebound well for his size, but his interior defense can make an instant impact on almost any roster. Okonoboh was a starter for UNLV last season but only saw a few minutes in the 15-16 season. With as much of a mess as UNLV's program is, and 7"0 wunderkind Stephen Zimmerman being arriving, it's hard to hold that against Okonoboh. However, Okonoboh left UNLV in December and was eligible as a midseason pickup. He has yet to take any visits so it's unclear what the Boston native's plans are.

Wojo when he calls to ask if Okonoboh wants to transfer to Marquette:

Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.
