This team will likely lose more games we're expected to win, and win more games we're expected to lose

This is truth....but the way you make it to the tourney with a team like ours is minimize the first and maximize the scond.

Yes...or win out in NYC.

DePaul has lost 6 straight with an average loss of over 10 points per game.

If MU drops this one at home, it will sting

And Elfrid Payton, I believe. Unless ULL got an auto bid.

They did

More Truth....there was that year UConn ripped through the BET and the NCAA.   ::)

We should beat DePaul. However, the past few years we have lost a couple of times to them when we should not have. The game scares the crap out of me. A young team sometimes does not realize they actually have to play to win.

When's the last time we lost to them in Milwaukee, though? I would be far more worried if the game were in Rosemont.

Why's that? Their essentially both home games.

Now I'm going to rephrase this because I'm evil. When was the last time a heavily scouted 5 star recruit lottery pick's team didn't make the tournament  ;D ;D

Well, the big name you want is the 2012-13 Kentucky team that didn't get into the NCAA tournament.  They did however get the top NIT seed.  Frosh Nerlens Noel (2013 6th overall pick) and Frosh Archie Goodwin (2013 29th overall pick) were on that team.

The year before. Noah Vonleh at Indiana.

Oh yeah...that one's good too.

I think DePaul beats MU tomorrow, and I'm certain it won't be the death of the program.

Nah, can't see it.  They could beat us at their place, though.  All the MU fans at the Rosemont Allstate always seems to rile the DePaul team up.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I'm not remotely saying we'll pull a UConn and run the table.  But MU at its best clearly has the ability to win three straight in NYC...just like MU at its worst has the ability to be one and done.

Simmons and LSU may be joining Marquette in that distinction this year.

Don't look now, but HE has dropped to #20 in the first round.

This mock draft has a well written and accurate scouting profile of Henry.

As I said I think we will win. However, I do believe DePaul is better than St. John's and we barely beat St. John's. That is why this game concerns me.

Gotcha. Draft Express still has him at #7. As a somewhat more than casual viewer of MU hoops and the NBA, I really don't see it YET.
None of these mock drafts are worth much. Draft Express still has Brice Johnson at 41 for example. Ben Bentil no where to be seen on any of them even though he is tearing up the Big East.

The good news is they are talking about some kind of 10 period after the combine where a kid can withdraw. Hopefully that leads to fewer Vander type decisions.

In 2000. 55-35, and Wardle had all of MU's first half points.

Worst part about a game like this...I'll be mildly amused if we win, but furious if we lose.
No Finish Line

line is -8.  I say give the points and take MU, we cover on free throws in the last :30.

I'm looking at the learning curve, I'm afraid we have a poor slope.   Some guys seem to be learning others not so much.  As a team they need follow instructions, I get the feeling that they don't always do that.  At this point it is all about execution no matter the score, that is except if you have money involved.

I was at the NYE game last year, and the arena was basically all Marquette fans for most of the game.  When Depaul went on a big run in the second half to take the lead, it seemed like the DePaul fans literally emerged out of nowhere and took over the arena.

I wish Brewer fans would do the same when the Cubs or Cardinals come to town...

We started the year with losses to Belmont and (a blowout) to Iowa at home, with an overtime win over IUPUI at home sandwiched between.  We then had a very successful rest of our non-conference, got smoked by Seton Hall at home, competed with a Georgetown team that seems to have turned the corner, beat a really good Providence team at their place, and beat a bad St. John's team at home.  Then we lost to (but were somewhat competitive with) 2 top 5 teams.  I'm not sure where the downward slope is coming from...
