What comes first, a soft/scared team or a soft/scared stadium? Up 7 against a top 5 (next week's rankings) team and everyone in the stadium sits on their hands. They go to a zone, we hit a couple 3s, then miss a couple shots and the team is praying not to have to be the one to shoot the ball.

Get tough Marquette. Team and fan base alike.

Maybe they got the WIAA memo not to cheer anything insensitive.

And we walked uphill to school barefoot in the snow both ways.  Youngsters today....

Xavier didn't go to a zone, they started in a 1-3-1 zone. Both of our first two offensive possessions that were failures were against the 1-3-1.

CountryRoads

Jokes aside the crowd was absolutely pathetic today. It was very embarrassing. It's also important to note that this was not due to the poor play on the floor from our guards. It was dead before the tip and throughout the game.

brewcity77

Every time the crowd came to life in the second half, we either game up an easy basket on defense or jacked another ill-advised three. The crowd didn't leave guys unguarded or throw prayers with 25 seconds on the shot clock.

GGGG

The crowd sounded fine on TV. Let's face it, a 21-0 run is going to take people out of the game.

So...just don't cheer or show up?  Okay.

It was embarrassing.  I could've had a conversation with any player on the court from where I was sitting, and I was not that close to the court.  And that was when we led by 7.

Hard for the crowd to do anything when Xavier goes on a 21-0 run. Crowd was on it's feet when it got to 10 points in the 2nd half.

I'll admit the crowd wasn't on fire to start the game, but it was only 5 minutes in the game or so.

The crowd cheers when given reason to cheer. Hard to get into the game when blasted with a 26-3 run and never get back closer than 7 after that.

As far as early in the game or halves, that's nothing new. Our fans have been like that for years. Settling in, taking time to get to their seats, this isn't a new occurrence, it's every game. Had the team been in it even remotely, the crowd would have been in it.

I watch tons of hoops. I don't see crowds on its feet down 10, with 5 minutes left, when MU really had no real hope of coming back.

I was there and the only thing I'd criticize were the numbers.  Top 10 opponent, Saturday in January, students back and the upper bowl was sparse.  I can tell you there wasn't a student sitting in the upper bowl and that is pretty pathetic.  I'm afraid we are seeing the effect of what is likely to be a 3rd mediocre to bad season.  Nobody who isn't a season ticket holder wants to come and there isn't much enthusiasm for the team from the students.  Its interesting that they no longer do the "I believe that we will win" cheer at the beginning of the game.  I think that is because they DON'T believe that we will win.

The problem with the upper bowl was the endzones, and I can't remember the endzones being full for any game other than Wisconsin the past three years. Whatever the reason, level of competition, quality of our own team, diligence of STHs, that's just where our attendance is at and has been for years.

There were a handful of students in the upper bowl, which is par for the course no matter the opponent when school isn't in session. Most of the students won't be back until tomorrow or Monday. We don't have the same student presence we did 5 years ago, but then again, we don't have the same fan presence period. If we were to make the NCAAs this year, it would help us next year. If not that, 2018 when the new arena opens may be the first time we see a real return in attendance.

Win and they will come. No magic to the recipe.

LAMUfan

the crowd is not an issue you should concern yourself with, seriously.  I will not get off your lawn.

sailwi

I was there cheering the whole game.  The issue was not the crowd it was our inept play.  I was embarrassed by our effort today and I seldom feel that way. Criticize me all you want but today was our effort, execution.

No kidding. If the team didn't play like ass for 35 minutes this wouldn't be an issue.

35 minutes?  They were plus 7 before an 8 minute scoring drought and plus 5 after that.  You and I must do math differently.

MUfan12

You really think MU had any chance of winning that game once X made the run?

Xavier couldn't hit the broad side of a barn. That's the only reason the margin was single digits. MU got handled by them.
