Death on call

"Keep your lectric eye on me babe, Put a ray gun to my head, Press your space face close to mine love..Freak out in a moonage daydream, oh yeah"     Moonage Daydream, 1972

Bowie was a rock icon who had so many songs that just had a certain cultural aspect to them.  The first time I heard the opening guitar riffs of "Suffragette City", I was hooked and had to learn how to play a guitar.  Bowie was blessed to have a guitar player named Mick Ronson in his band, who co-engineered all of his recordings.
That was a long time ago, and have been playing since and many of his songs have been put thru these fingers.

For you youngsters, go to a site and listen to the full album "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders from Mars", circa 1972.  This is a genius album which was followed by "Aladdin Sane" and "Diamond Dogs".  Three albums that can match up against anyones.

"As they pulled you out of the oxygen tent, you asked for the latest party".....Diamond Dogs.

Bowie got tied up in the funk culture with his hits "Fame" (which John Lennon co-wrote), "Fashion" and "Golden Years", good songs and commercial hits,  but not like the early stuff.

When you heard the beginning of the songs, like "Suffragette", "Diamond Dogs", "Rebel, Rebel" (which Bowie actually played the opening riff, "Changes", "The Jean Genie", "Panic in Detroit" and yes even the most commercial Bowie song "Space Oddity", you were hooked.

There are probably 25 other hits, but most of you know them.  A rock legend and RIP.

Ziggy played guitarrrrrrrr........

Spotcheck Billy

He also took Mott the Hoople off of life support in 1972 with All the Young Dudes, mentored The Stooges and Iggy Pop and probably contributed as much or more to Lou Reed's Transformer LP than Lou did.

Sheriff

I'll be ever grateful for him helping launch Stevie Ray Vaughn's career.

SRV played lead guitar on Bowie's "Let's Dance" album.  I remember the video of the title song, Bowie with guitar in hand while Stevie's solo plays.

actually half the credit should go to Jackson Browne, they both saw him at Montreux, Bowie had him guest and Browne gave him studio time to record his own material

Best band to come out of Los Angeles ever, in my opinion.  Beach Boys, Van Halen, Metalica, Gun's n Roses, Doors are all up there from So. Cal, but hard to argue with the Eagles staying power.

Yes indeed.  For those interested, there are various internet sites (guess wiki and others) that reflect how the band was formed.  Connections with Linda Rondstadt, Andrew Gold, Jackson Browne and others all being close friends in the area.

Glen Frey was an avid golfer and each year he performed for charity at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which is in a few weeks. Hope they do some recognition for him on TV coverage.  RIP

I suspect AT&T will do something very nice in that regards.

Damn, loved the Eagles since I was a little kid. The HBO doc "History of the Eagles" is outstanding and a must watch. Glenn Fry was kind of a dick as a person(so is Don Henley) but they are responsible for some tremendous music and spawned an entirely new genre of music.

RIP Glenn
