Duane his 3's were the spark and kept St. John's from packing it inside. Opened up play for Fish.

Du.  Missed shots are at least shots, which are better than 6 TOs (HE).  And Luke can't win with 0 defensive rebounds (just 2 offensive).

Honestly, if it wasn't for 5 TOs I'd agree.  6 pts, 8 assists and 4 steals.  But 5 TOs from a PG...not acceptable.

I believe all but one in the first half.  He played big in the second.  Offense was just better with him on the floor.

I don't think we win without ellenson or Luke either. Weird feeling when we get a conference win and everyone had huge flaws in their performance. Got to clean it up against the elites of the conference.

Henry was dominant in the first five or six minutes of the second half.

Duane - if you weren't at the game you don't realize what his 3 threes did for us in that second Half -

Duane. Terrible first half, but when everyone in the BC was chomping their tongues ready to explode, he was the one that ripped the top off the BC.

+1.

Changed the attitude in the building, on court and off.

ChuckyChip

Close call.  Luke edges out Duane.

WarriorHal

Duane with the big threes.

This exactly. I said at least 3-4 times to my wife that the place was ready to explode but circumstances killed us. Dumb turnovers, TV timeouts, every time the BC was ready to blow up the momentum got sucked back out. Duane finally changed everything. And after starting 1/9 with 3 points, he finished 4/5 tallying 11 more. Absolutely changed the momentum, the environment, and the emotion.

1.  Luke
2. Duane
3. Double-double

I vote Duane.  Luke missed too much time with fouls and didn't rebound or do a good jjob defending the basket.  Nobody was end to end good tonight, but Duane was big when the game turned.

Agree completely

I get the whole momentum change and sparkplug of the run, never quitting thing, but starting 1-9?

If we're going sparkplug, then Wally with a big 3, and 4 rebounds in 8 min.

I do like the fact that he has a short memory.  Doesn't let his bad start dictate how he finishes.

CAGASS24

If we only elect studs when we win than the only thig that should matter is who had the greatest effect on is winning the game- out of context stats are only one portion- my vote is simply that of there's one guy on the team that we don't win without it was Duane- great game by Luke- but Duane all day

duane....no explanation for luke having 2 rebounds and being in foul trouble against a small team when it was obvious he was to be the focal point for the MU offense.  if we would have lost this game it would have been on him...SOTG's should finish the game...especially considering he drew an easy match-up.  heldt has 2 rebounds in 5 min and wally pulled down 4 in 8 min.  2 rebounds is really frustrating...

HE has a ways to go...but his presence on the boards is the only presence MU has.

GGGG

It actually was a difficult match up for Luke defensively.  He was getting attacked off the pick and roll constantly, and SJU would just drive into him if he was still moving.  Very NBA like and a good move by Mullin.

CountryRoads

Duane despite the rough first half. Got the crowd/team going with his 3s in the second half. Hopefully he can carry this in to next week.

Everyone had a fatally flawed game. Luke scored, but was invisible on the glass and picked up 5 fouls outside the paint, unacceptable for a center. Traci had a great line, but turned it over 6 times, and some really ugly and stupid. Henry would have the "next best" case for me but was equally invisible in the first half and looked scared to shoot late with the smaller Johnnies swatting him left and right.

Being in the gym, it had to be Duane for me. He got the crowd into the game and turned the momentum, and as poorly as he started, he finished equally hot. The least offensive fatal flaw to me is the shooter continuing to shoot, especially when his shots made the difference late.

don't remember the fouls coming on pick and rolls as much as a lack of awareness of where he was on the court...and the two forwards for st. johns shot 33%.  if you can't hedge on a high pick and roll in college bball you won't see the floor much.  he has the footwork to do so.  the providence game a bad match-up too?

he needed to stay out of foul trouble in this game and couldn't manage to do so, while pulling down 2 rebounds in 26 minutes.

mileskishnish72

Gotta go with DuW. I know, I know the first half was yucky. But when they go, threes are a wonderful thing. It seemed like he changed the whole momentum.

mileskishnish72

Forgot to add - HE has another double-double and he's only got a couple of mentions in the STOG discussion. Are we getting spoiled?
