I have no clue why anyone would trust us.

#8 Marquette

You have to give Steve Wojciechowski credit for the growth we've witnessed thus far at Marquette. The services of a future lottery pick, Henry Ellenson (16.0 PPG, 9.9 RPG, 1.5 BPG), have certainly helped the program go from 13-19 overall in 2014-15 to an 11-4 start in 2015-16, a surge stamped by Tuesday's 65-64 road victory over No. 8 Providence. That's promising, but the Golden Eagles had just lost to Seton Hall at home and Georgetown on the road by 30 points combined. They lost to Iowa by 28 in Milwaukee two months ago, too. This Marquette team can compete with the best of the Big East. Clearly. We're just waiting to see if this group will evolve into a more consistent force.

Nothing was blatantly wrong. Congrats, Myron!

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I have to say--Myron has been fairly generous to MU and the whole Big East throughout this season: a welcome change of pace.  I wonder if Buzz rubbed him wrong, which resulted in some of his more damning/back-handed complimenting pieces in the past.

If only we could get Gottlieb to come around...

It remains to be seen, if MU has improved over last year.
Last year 8-4 non-conference vs 10-2. However, last year's non-conference schedule was tougher.
Last year started out 1-2 in Big East with win over Providence at home and lost at DePaul & Georgetown.
This year 1-2 with win over Providence at Providence and loss at Georgetown and loss at home to Seton Hall.

Whatever.  The Big East isn't even part of the constitution.

This years team is significantly better and more talented.  If you can't see that, well...

I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

The data, though it provides fodder, is utterly meaningless given the small sample size in hinting at the assertion that the teams are similar.

Well they tell me a different story when I was watching the Seton Hall and Georgetown game then they did when I was watching the Providence game. We are likely to be 2-2 in conference and last year we were also 2-2. I think we should win more than 4 games, but it is not a given.

Hopefully, the most recent game might be a indication of the teams development status.  I think they continue to improve, but at what rate....I don't know.... but I believe its upward, not downward or level.

Going into the season I felt they would be a surprise team on national stage and to date I think the potential is still there to be a second weekend team in March. For the first time in three years they have have guys who can score and have some size. Full expect an up's and down's but overall am more excited than I have been in three years.

MU is better, but it turns out that much of the Big East is better.  So, how much improved is MU relative to how much the rest of the league is improved?

Well, they answered that in part by beating a top 10 Providence team on the road.

Or did they by losing to SH at home?

It is clear to me that MU is better than last year.   By a lot.   However, it is also clear to me that the rest of the conference has stepped up, too.   MU gets rolled at home by SH, beats the Friars on the road.   Proof of both.   IMO, MU needs to improve more the rest of the year relative to the rest of the league.   By getting better on defense, better rebounding by the guards, more efficient on offense.   It can't by one or two guys, it has to be all 10.   If MU is to actually get to the big dance.    Because the other 9 teams (ok, 8.  Who knows with DePaul) are working as hard.

Absolutely. And with each team playing the other twice, there are no favorable schedules from year to year. It really is quite a meritorious league.

I'm not sure why people are looking at this as positive publicity for the team/a compliment from Myron, unless you're of the belief that "any PR is good PR."  Sure, he says we can compete with anybody in our conference...but the article is listing 10 teams that you should not trust.  That is not a good list to be on.

I'll take, let's improve the team First and then let the chips fall.  Like they say we only have control of us.
