i took vid of the intros...the wisc crowd was pretty impressive and rowdy.

Watching Marquette during the intros got me pumped!

Anyone else find it odd how they alternate teams during the intros.  Is that a Madison thing?  I was thinking maybe a Big Ten thing?

Schoolyard

It seems more old school to me.  I think they do that during the NCAAs too.

My handle is Schoolyard but I do my best work at Finley Dunnes...Joe Kenny in '08

ya. i don't like that. it seems like it gives the away team too much recognition. even though it is a little childish i like the MU "sucks!" after each away player/ coach introduction. I think the MU home intros are pretty good, the crowd seems to always get into it

I was at the game and their crowd was DEFINITELY way into their introductions than ours are, especially the student section.  Although all of their little routines made it seem like a musical throughout the game, I thought the clap at the opposing players during their introductions and their jumping around/chanting during their own was pretty good...I could hardly hear the announcer at all it was so loud in their student section.  Also, I think it actually takes the recognition away from the opposing team more, as the announcer just kind of mumbles it and says it really fast.  It's just kind of like "AtguardforMarquettea5'11"juniorfromIndiananumber1DominicJamesand FOR WISCONSIN A 6'1" SOPHOMORE GUARD FROM WISCONSIN TREVON HUGHES!" and then they pause for the crowd to cheer and do it over again.  You hardly know they're introducing Marquette players and then all of a sudden it's a Wisconsin player...they hardly acknowledge the other team.

And I cannot believe I just backed up any sort of Wisconsin Badger thing...wow.

MUCrew

You make a good point, wadesworld...but you should still be shot :-p

I think the student section/band has a better reception set up for the home players.

But I'm not a fan of the alternating lineups.  Our student section turning their backs on the away team is better than the strange clapping their students were doing.

mufan924

though i do not like them, i was very impressed with their student section. they were like a possessed army. a possessed army of douchebags in red striped blazers, but they were quiet organized and effective. we just never let them keep it going for too long.

I haven't seen the alternating lineups since high school.

You're right.  I coach HS ball and when I first saw the clip, I didn't even think twice about it.  To be honest, I kinda like it.  It's a nice change of pace from the 'normal' lineup introductions.

Where do they do that in HS starting line ups? I went to HS in Madison and no schools did that in our conference (Big Eight) that I remember.

FWIW, I graduated 2 years ago... maybe it was more popular 10-15 years ago to do that in HS hoops?

I know they do it in Illinois.  The introduction is old school..but not THAT old school.

WashDCWarrior

They did the alternating intros in Maui, and I'd gues they do for most neutral games.  That's the first I've seen it done at a home game.

Let's not adopt it.

They do it in the WI Little Ten too. Northwest metro milwaukee area.

ZiggysFryBoy

the alternating intros are a tradition from the last time UW won a championship.   ;D
