At least our team lost to a squad projected to win their conference and be in the RPI top 100.

Never understood the idea that if a rival loses, it's supposed to make up for MU losing.

And I never understood fans who join forums and do nothing but b*tch about the team they are supposedly a fan of.  ;D

It doesn't make up for anything but anytime the Badgers lose, it makes me smile.

I'm with ya, TAMU.

Nice to see Bucky lose at home to a directional school.

Western Ill was outside the top 200 and they went into the Kohl and beat Bucky.  That does make me feel better. :)  Welcome back to earth Badger fans, its a new season.

So you're saying there's a chance (12/12).....

Probably saw you! I was at the table with the keg taps!
Retire Terry Rand's jersey!

Love it. Makes it a little easier to go to work among the throng of BADger fans.

My cousin (the one who is a massive Badger fan, even though he never went there, and never lived in Wisconsin) gave me major sh!t last year after the Omaha game.

Karma's a bitch.
Have some patience, FFS.

Should these kind of bad losses continue in Madison, are we to conclude that the entire Bucky run of the last two years (rising to the level of consecutive FFs) was about one simple concept ... Getting lucky with Frank Kaminsky?

(Note, Kaminsky was the first POY that did not start his freshman year.  Statistically he had the worst freshman/sophomore stats ever for a future POY.  By this metric, coming out of high school and into the beginning of college, he was the most unlikely POY in CBB history.  Or, he was the biggest "late bloomer" in CBB history.  It would be like Matt Heldt rising to a POY level in three years.)

Just catching up on all the threads from yesterday/this morning. And holy cow... Fish and NY Fan are either trolls or extremely pessimistic/cynical people.

This thread could look really silly a month from now.

Why? Wisconsin could win every game the rest of this season but it still wouldn't change the fact that they lost to Western Illinois and that made me smile.

That being said, I picked them preseason as a bubble team and I am sticking by that. Last night certainly doesn't prove anything, but it makes me feel a bit more confident about my pick.

Now that statement could end up looking up silly in a month from now. But then again, so could yours.

Well 1) because we're both 0-1.  I guess the last 2 years with us being so bad and our rival being so good we have now fallen back as a fanbase to "Our home loss to a mid-major was a better home loss than your home loss so yeah, suck it!" (So in essence I guess it didn't take a month for it to look silly.)  And 2) what does it say about our program if we're going to make fun of Wisconsin for losing to Western Illinois at home but then we go into the Kohl Center and lose?

We matchup better with Wisky. They're no where near as quick as belmont. We can actually play Fischer and Ellenson on the floor at the same time against Wisconsin.

1) No, it has nothing to do with our loss. I'm not saying our loss was better than theirs. Anytime they lose it makes me smile. Doesn't matter if we win, lose, tie, forfeit, or weren't playing that day. If the Badgers, Domers, or Longhorns lose, it makes me smile. Call me silly if you must, but I choose to enjoy watching rivals lose. Doesn't bother me one bit.

2) It says absolutely nothing about us outside of whatever effect it has on our RPI. College basketball is a funny game. A team will lose to D2 LeMoyne one night and then go onto win the Big East that season. Wisconsin might lose to Western Illinois and then beat us. It doesn't mean Western Illinois is better than us. Transitive property of basketball doesn't exist. The only thing last night's loss means to me is that the Badgers lost to a team that was picked to finish in the Summit. And to me, that's pretty great. They might win the rest of their games and props to them if they do but that won't change my enjoyment from last night's debacle.

If you choose not to enjoy a rival's loss, then good on you. There are many different kinds of fans. As long as we are cheering for the same team, it's all good

I guess the question then becomes why is there only a thread started when they lose to Western Illinois and not when they lose to Duke or Maryland?

I would rather be MU than Wiscy today.
Wiscy:   Lost to a terrible team.     MU:   lost to a likely tourney team.
Wiscy:   Looked lost and that there prospects aren't going to pan out.    MU:   Young guys showed great potential, but couldn't finish.
Wiscy:   About to go through a coaching change that will probably fundamentally alter the future of that program.        MU:    Been there, done that.
Wiscy:   Still see Wiscy fans when they look in the mirror.     MU:    Friggin rocks.

Not really cynical I don't think, but pessimistic by nature.  Would rather expect the worst and be surprised if something good happens.

NC State was beaten handily at home by William and Mary.

But at least it took both William AND Mary to beat 'em.

These kinds of losses happen early in the season.
