Benny B

Traveling to San Diego (last-minute) for work next week.  All of the usual hotels in Old Town are booked.  I typically stay at Hyatt or Marriott brands, but there's no availability in Old Town at all (except the Best Western), so I'm thinking Downtown/Gaslamp Qtr since I won't have a rental car and would like to be within walking distance to some decent restaurants, etc.

Any hotel/dining/timekill suggestions would be appreciated.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

McP's on the Coronado side. It is where the JSOC community gathers to drink (which draws an incredible amount of scenic talent...)

Fun place to watch SEALs, TACPs, Raiders, and Rangers fight over women, drinking prowess, and tales of 'there I was' derring-do.

And the scenery...good Lord...

Acqua al 2 is an amazing Italian restaurant.  http://www.acquaal2.com/

I first went to their restaurant in Florence, then discovered they have one in San Diego.  The latter isn't as good as the one in Florence of course, but it's one of the better Italian places I've been to in the states.

Marriott in Gaslamp is a good location.I would avoid the Hyatt as it is convention central and you have to cross Harbor dr. To get to restaurants
Except Puerta which is on the corner of Kettering and is a gourmet taco destination. Reservations recommended.

Will Benny need to kick any a$$ if he goes there?

I've never found an Irish Pub where that wasn't the case.  Though when I say "kicking ass" I mean a) my own ass and b) Jameson.

I am sure those SEALS will give way to Benny like Charlton Heston parting the Red Sea...

McPs is one of the best bars in the world

My wife and I stayed at the W recently there.  It was pretty good, within walking distance of many things.
