Why? It's a continuation of a decades-long trend — as the world has warmed, most places have had less snow. Today's children won't remember winter the way their parents do.

However, well water does not contain fluoride. Thus, when parents come in for a check up with their children, the question is often asked: "Should we be using fluoride supplements?"

That answer is a yes, but precautions should be taken.

Fluoride is introduced into community water for a reason— it works! It is proven to reduce tooth decay among communities by 20 to 40%. So it's definitely helpful, and if you're not using a municipal water source then you and your children's dental health is at risk. Using fluoridated toothpaste is a common and effective topical solution to this problem.

I have well water at my homeand the pediatrician recommended fluoride supplements between ages x and y (I don't remember the range.) for my kids which we did.

I remember grammar school in the he late 70's early 70's.  Once a month was fluoride day and the nurse would send a tray of Dixie cups with fluoride water and the whole class would have a timed mouth swish.

To be fair there have been a lot of advances in science since then that have made a lot of people turn into idiots.

Just think what AI will do.

Quote from: NCMUFan on November 16, 2024, 08:47:22 AMJust think what AI will do.

It will change the way we learn and problem solve, but just like every emergent technology some will use it more effectively than others and be regarded as leaders/geniuses.

The big risk of AI is not in intelligence/learning, it is in the potential for societal upheaval (by its very nature), and societal/political upheaval by its manipulation/misuse.

In all honesty, calculators were more disruptive (negatively) to peoples math ability than AI will be for learning and knowledge. AI employed properly in learning/problem solving is more likely to enhance learning/problem solving than detract from it.

Airbnb's gladiator experience at the Colosseum leads to outcry in Rome

The vacation-rental company is promising armor, swordfights and "victuals" to a chosen few.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/2024/11/16/airbnb-colosseum-gladitor-rome/?

Airbnb dangled an unusual possibility this week for fans of history, shields and very long movies: "Suit up and unleash your inner gladiator inside Rome's legendary arena."

The company is offering a chance for a small number of people to follow in the footsteps of fighters and various beasts — with a less bloody outcome — as part of an "exclusive gladiator experience" at the Colosseum that doubles as a promotion for the upcoming film "Gladiator II."

"For the first time in nearly 2,000 years, the Colosseum returns to its original purpose as a venue for performances, inviting daring warriors to step foot inside the historic arena to forge their own paths and shape their destinies," the announcement says. It promises the spectacle of a "thrilling showdown" by seasoned gladiators, a meal of "victuals like grapes, pomegranates, almonds, and walnuts," and a faceoff with "fellow warriors."

To some, those were fighting words.

"We can't turn one of the world's most important monuments into a theme park," wrote Massimiliano Smeriglio, Rome's councillor for culture, in an Instagram post, as translated by the social media site. Other culture officials sounded similar alarms in media reports.

Finally ... the perfect vacation for Muggsy!
