Celtic Truth

The Celtics gave jae a $1.2mil qualifying offer, making him a restricted free agent. I really hope he stays in Boston, I think playing for Stevens is ideal and he quickly became a fan favorite in Boston because of his MU toughness.

Celtic Truth

In other Celtics news, Brad Stevens brought Alex Barlow in to be an assistant coach for the Cs. I loved him as a player. It says a lot about a guy to go from an unrecruited player to a walk on, to one of the better point guards in the country(if you don't agree watch the game vs UNC where he dominated Marcus Paige). I wish him the best, and hope he succeeds in Boston with Stevens

I hope the Bucks get him....he would be a great grunt player for any team. And inexpensive 7th 8th or 9th man.

Class71

Better off at Boston, bigger market, better coach and a better fit on  a team with a great history of winners.

Population of Milwaukee = 600,000 (rank 31)
Population of Boston = 645.000 (rank 24)

People always greatly over-inflate the size and importance of Boston

regarding the rest

Kidd = Stevens

Bucks (now) better than Celtics (now)

Bucks, better team, same coaching talent, same TV market.

---------

If TV market matters, try these markets (which I bet you thought were all larger than Boston)

Indianapolis, 848,000 (rank 14)
Columbus 836,000 (rank 15)
Detroit 680,000 (rank 24)
Memphis 657,000 (rank 23)

Litehouse

You need to look at the entire region(MSA), not just the city of Boston, especially for TV markets.
Boston MSA = 4.5M (rank 10)
Milwaukee MSA = 1.5M (rank 39)

This exactly. Media market size does not equal city limits population.

The good part is that the local media are indicating that a multi-year deal will likely be the result. Not sure how the cap increase that is coming fits in to what he should do.

Here's the official Nielsen list.

Boston is actually 7th.
Milwaukee is 35th.

MSA is a Radio term so maybe poster earlier was looking at Arbitron markets (MSAs)

Nielsen is TV...so you are correct.

Did he really try to compare Boston to Milwaukee in terms of size/importance? And the Celtics franchise compared to the Bucks? WOW

This.

Milwaukee is one of the smallest markets in the NBA. Boston one of the biggest. Its fan base includes all of New England

If you really want to see which city is more important, compare the number of destinations out of Logan and Mitchell.

JWags85

Also, Kidd=Stevens?  I think Kidd has come a long ways and is a good coach, but Stevens is already thought of as one of the top X and Os guys in the league and what he did to get that Cs team to the playoffs was tremendous.

Of the 27 US Markets that have teams only 3 are smaller than Milwaukee; Oklahoma City, Memphis, and New Orleans.

In ranking of all 30 teams Milwaukee would be 27th. (Not sure where Toronto falls but I would assume top 10, hence why all major leagues are there or have interest)

Yeah Toronto is huge. Would be the 3rd largest city if it was in the USA, after New York and LA...its bigger than Chicago. MSA is is about 6 million.

Chicago MSA is 9.5 million. Dallas, Ft. Worth is 6.9. Houston is 6.4. Philly is 6. DC is 6. Miami is 5.9.

Toronto would be, maybe, in the top 10.

Right, but also being the only team in Canada,  their media market is bigger than all of these except Chicago.

According to Nielson, they are the #6 media market team after New York (Brooklyn/Knicks) LA (Clippers/Lakers) and Chicago (Bulls).
