Novak traded....again
« on: February 19, 2015, 02:34:56 PM »
...to the Thunder.

That's 8 NBA teams in 9 seasons.  What's the record for most teams played for?

At least he's going to a good team; could be a good opportunity for him.

Novak has become nothing more than a contract to help balance out trades. He could see a lot of wide-open 3s with the Thunder ... if they'd actually play him. As with all teams, however, Novak's serious defensive and rebounding shortcomings have to be weighed before playing time comes his way. I'm rooting for him, as always!

Royce Young thinks he's getting bought out.

Edit: I think they'd technically have to get rid of someone else first. I don't believe they can go to 16 and then cut; they must always be at 15 or lower. So maybe Steve's safe?

Such a shame, he was so good on the knicks a couple years back and got traded and now back to obscurity.

I believe they have a specified amount of time (24 hours?) to make a roster move after a trade so they would be able to buy him out/release him to get the roster below 16.

I'd take $7M over 2 years to be in obscurity.

I'd also take $195,000 a year in pension after 65. Needs 11 years of service for the max payout.

Novak will be like Mike Miller and go for as long as the body will carry him. When your that big and can shoot that well there is always a job.

Don't know the details if he is in Thunder's plan for the rest of the yr, but I'm excited for Steve.  With slashers like KD, Westbrook, Waiters - post players like Serge, Steve Adams, and Collison, there will plenty of opportunities for open looks from downtown.

Couple that with OKC getting healthy and playing better, and Steve's on a bigger stage.  If the season ended today, OKC would be arguably the best 8th seed in league history.

As long as Steve stays in the league, we should be happy.

Thunder sent Ish Smith to NO so it looks like Novak could be sticking around, at least for the time being.

Novak won't see the floor, so it won't matter who he's playing with.

Yep. And even if he did, there aren't that many shots available with Waiters, Westbrook & Durant. Waiters is not a slasher, he's the ultimate chucker who thinks he's a 3 point shooter.

But will Bud Wiser see the floor?

Still remember going to Marquette Madness and Steve hitting 29 of 30 3's from the 5 ball racks.  Unreal shooter.  We were lucky to get him over Florida and Illinois.

Yeah, will never forget him against Kentucky in the elite 8 as a freshman. Will likely always be the best Marquette game I've ever attended.

Not saying Ellenson will be as pure, but he reminds me of Novak when I watch him. He has a smooth release, natural shooter. He's going to be a good one.

Ellenson is a much more fluid athlete and can slide laterally better imo.  As far as shooting I don't think anyone can top Steve but Henry will create his own shot more.

But if my memory serves me correctly, even Novak didn't step in and shoot lights out right away in the early games.  There is an adjustment even for a player like Novak with a high and unique skill coming to college.  Novak didn't have the inside game or driving ability to offset that one unique skill until his Senior year, so that may have worked against Novak, or, in his favor in that he just set up in the corner for the 3 early in his career.

I really do miss having Diener out there who had to be face guarded outside the 3 point line AND Novak who had to be face guarded.  So easy with those two to spread the floor.  Novak's guy wouldn't even look away from Novak when he was standing at the 3 point line to help out on a cutter to the hoop. Or if the defender did take a step away, Novak would get a shot.

That definitely was a great game, one of the all time best probably right behind the 77 NCAA semi-final against Charlotte and then the final. Another all time great game where the atmosphere was electric was MU against heavily favored UNC for Joe Wolf's homecoming. Was at that game and thought we had it until about 3 minutes left.

Kinda like how you have to defend Creighton now...

Novak's 4-4 in OT against Mizzou in the second round was another great performance.  Had 2 pts in regulation.  Marquette as a team was perfect from the floor in OT.

His 41 pts and 16 reb performance to open MU's BE run against #2 UConn is one of the all time great MU performances.  The shot from the MU logo...wow!

HE is not nearly the shooter Novak was/is.  HE is by far a better dribbler and much stronger than Novak was as a HS SR.  Some similarities in there games but each have different specialties.
