Tommy not doing too well tonight. Down 20 to MSU with 6 minutes to go.

Wonder how long the Tan One will last at I4? Of course, there is a lot of cash owed in his contract. Or has I4 decided that he is the man for the rest of his 10 year deal?

I know that it is very small of me but I actually take pleasure in watching IU lose and even more pleasure when they lose big. I just keep replaying that video in mind of Crean yelling at Tim Miles the other night. I probably should make it a New Year's Resolution to let it go but what fun is the world without a little schadenfreude?

I like to see all ex Marquette coaches do well. Reflects well in us in the long term.  I want to see Indiana make the tournament and go as far as possible, unless of course when they face us .

also agree.

I was reading my youngest Shackleton's Journey (he's 6 and why there is a children's version of this i don't know) but the crew list starts with the following:

The Crew of the Endurance

Sir Ernest Shackleton, Leader
Frank Wild, Second-in-Command
Frank Worsley, Captain
Lionel Greenstreet, First Officer
Tom Crean, Second Officer
Alfred Cheetham, Third Officer

Only included Alfred because he was next but i thought it was situationally funny on many levels.

I am completely agnostic on Crean and now on Buzz. Appreciate what they did here but pay little to no attention to them now unless someone else brings 'em up on Scoop (which someone always does).

I gotta say that I don't see how an ex-Marquette coach doing well elsewhere reflects well on us at all. I also don't think if they fell on their faces it would reflect poorly on us one iota.

crean - yes. he left for one of the premier jobs in the sport for a ton of money and leeway. can't fault a guy for that.
buzz - not so much. he did great things here but left after an awful year and crapped all over the fans, local media, administration(through his media mouthpiece) and conference on his way out. had he left for Oklahoma or TAMU or something when he had the chance then i'd understand... the way it all went down... not gonna be cheering for VPI anytime soon...

I don't want to see Crean lose because he left marquette, I want to see him lose because he's a pud whack.

WarhawkWarrior

Does anyone have a link to the Scoop counterpart site.  I wouldn't mind how their rabid fan base is taking this defeat.  Don't ever forget the way he treated his team as an after thought when he decided to leave.

I'd like to see him win just enough to stick at I4.  There's enough competition on the recruiting trail without a top draw coaching at Indiana.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

wadesworld

Did they score a 2 point field goal in the 1st half at least?

tower912

It was one game.   And Izzo had MSU on a mission after losing their conference season opener at home to Maryland.  IU was just in the wrong gym on the wrong night.

I also don't see how them doing poorly when leaving here reflects badly on us.  I love it that Kevin O'Neil thought he was too good for Marquette and left for greener pastures thinking he would have even more success and then failed everywhere he went.  I think it is great that Crean thought he would be able to have more success at Indiana and so far and most likely in the future has not been able to even duplicate his final four run at Marquette.  It shows that maybe there is something special about Marquette and coaching here should not be a stepping stone job.

Also, I know each of the coaches personally except for Buzz and I would never find myself wanting them to do well.  Not for the way they treated people and for the way they left Marquette.

avid1010

those coaches doing poorly when the leave marquette helps in my opinion.  leaving didn't go so well for KO, TC, BW...interesting how coaches can be more successful at MU than the likes of TN and IU.  plus buzz turned out to be a liar, and crean is a prick.  love watching them loose.  it's sports, i don't wish them poor health, and they're set for life $$$ wise...just fun to have a guy to root against.  it used to be you could watch a team and be a fan of a player for 3-4 years...now most of the good ones go pro in 1-2 years and i think coaches have become the face of the team (at least a little more than in the past).  it was so much fun to watch uconn beat UK last year...and the coaches had a ton to do with it.

A good Indiana team means UW will lose two more games per season. I look at it through that lens.

The Lens

If there was an article in SI or ESPN today talking about Hank / Rick / Al, it would be natural to link it.  So I have no issue with people discussing the success of Buzz or the failures TC.  They are part of the MU story.  In 7 or 8 years when Wojo is coaching at Maryland or UVa, I'm not going to ignore that, I'm going to probably cheer for him and remember January 6th 2015 when we went into Georgetown and kicked their _ _ _.

Since I never met the man, I have no personal experiences with him whatsoever.  He always represented Marquette well and speaks respectably about the University now.  I wish him no ill will.

Doesn't seem like a "hard time". More like a failure. It's been nearly 10 years since he left Marquette. Move on, move up, or move out.

By this point, I view the constant insults of Crean to be a poor reflection on those doing the insulting rather than on Crean.

hilarious.  crean is a prick...that's not an insult...that's a fact. the same is true for many college coaches.  i guess i have poor character for rooting for guys like JT3, jay wright, dixon, few, used to love UofA under lute, like izzo, donovan, always liked chaney at temple...and wishing zero wins for bo, crean, buzz, cal, etc...  it's sports...you have players/coaches you like and those you don't...it's not a big deal.
