During one of the time outs they do a name that tune.  They list the opening words to a song and then on the next time out they tell you the name of that song.

Today's song (Morgan State) was "The twist" by Chubby Checker.  I looked it up, that song was released in 1960.  It's almost 55 freaking years old!  This was not the first song of that era used in this gimmick.

How old are MU fans?  Do we need to carbon date them?

If they are old as these songs suggest, maybe they should have colostomy bag give-a-ways.

I'll email the athletic dept. and see if we can get some Taylor Swift for you.

I'm quite young and I'd know that song in a heartbeat.  There are some songs that transcend generations, that is one of them.

Bricky

Do you honestly not recognize the song? It's a pretty famous piece.

Daniel

It's a classic. Crosses generations!

Of course, most people would recognize "The Twist" if they heard the actual song.  But that's not what this was.  They printed part of a verse on the Jumbotron and you were supposed to guess the song from that.  Here are the lyrics they used:

My daddy is sleepin'
And mama ain't around
Yeah, daddy just sleepin'
And mama ain't around

How many people would have been able to guess from that?
Have some patience, FFS.

Thank you Chick!

As I wrote above, if you read that and knew instantly it was the twist, then you are old enough for a colostomy bag.

I would. In fact the first line would have been enough for me to "name that tune". Of course, I was born in 1948 which makes it easier.

Great song . I went to a private birthday party once in Phoenix and they hired Chubby Checker to perform . It was a great show.

That might get the interest of the kids.

For me ... U2, Nelly, Guns n Roses, The Black Eyed Peas, Chili Peppers, Green Day, Kid Rock, Dave Matthews, Foo Fighters and/or Eminem will do.

Simply, nothing before 2000 should ever be used.

Lenny you're going to be 67 next year ... you're making my point better than me!

So thank you.

Well nothing before 2000 would mean that a lot of music by U2, Gn'R, Peppers, Green Day, and Kid Rock could not be used. Nelly & Black Eye Peas total crp.

Impeccable math, but what's your point? it's a silly game played for the fan's amusement and guess what? Some MU fans are 66 like myself or (shudder) even older.

You're scaring me, the alumni section is a retirement community!

They also give options as to which song it is, like multiple choice. I was born in 1977 and can't imagine anyone not knowing that is The Twist from those lyrics. That's one of the easier ones they've had.

Funny, it's the only one I haven't gotten correct so far this year, and I am significantly older than you. Who the hell knows the second verse to "The Twist"? That's like knowing the second verse of "The Star Spangled Banner".

Sorry that your chance for a perfect score has ended - it explains your insistence that the quiz question was unfair.

But as to "who the hell knows the second verse to "The Twist"? Millions. It would be the $200 question on "Jeopardy!". But I will admit the first verse "C'mon baby, let's do the twist, C'mon baby, let's do the twist" would have made it easier.

Mobot

I took my ten year old daughter to the game... she guessed the correct answer and watching people do the twist on the jumbo-tron was one of her favorite parts of the game.

Come on.

The "Guess the Tune" segment should be like the first part of a wedding mix.  Songs everyone knows and can dance around too.  Seriously, the Red Hot Chili Peppers?  I mean, I love them, but you're gonna put the lyrics from "Under the Bridge" up there to fire everyone up?
