15-16
« on: October 10, 2014, 06:52:20 AM »
Assuming no transfers  ::):
5:  Fischer, Heldt
4:  STjr, HEllenson
3:  Burton, WEllenson, Cohen
2:  HC, JJJ, Duane
1:  Dawson, NN.

What is missing?       A switchable?    A truly dynamic PG?    Duane and HC both COULD play the point.   Assuming that Wojo can coach as well as recruit and say the right things, that could be a good team.   Tempered with the caveat to not expect too much out of freshmen.

A 3pt bomb, and free, thrower like Novak. Now he was really automatic.

Looks pretty good--but not buying Duane as third in that rotation, or Dawson as first.

1- Duane
2- Burton
3- Steve
4- Henry*
5- Fischer

Bench Order:
JJJ
Dawson
Heldt
Wally
Cohen
Cheatham
Noskowiak
Dillard?

I think a sniper would be a nice add. A 3/4 I think is our place of most dire need. Especially if Henry has one and done potential.

*I know Henry is probably the 3 on offense but I prefer to look at positions from a "who will you guard" perspective. I think Henry would guard the post and Steve would take the wing.

What is really nice about 15-16 is that we will have good options at almost every position, and most who were top 75 recruits. So foul trouble or injuries will not affect us as much.

A healthy Duane Wilson will start many games in a Marquette uniform.

Dawson and Cheatam probably won't start. Henry will.

I agree.  I also believe Duane will be a much better shooter than most think.  I thought he was a high percentage shooter from the arc in H.S.  Someone may have the stats on this.

You could be right, but you want to protect your best offensive player on defense. That is why there were questions on whether McDermott could play defense. He was to valuable offensively to have him get in foul trouble. I see Ellenson the same way.

I think henry will start but at the same time if Steve is unleashed this year I have trouble believing he won't start and Burton I think is pretty much locked as the starter at 3 so either we play a weird two PF line up with henry at the second 4 over fisher. Essentially I think the starting spot is Steve's to lose and it'll be based off his performance this year.

Tower listed the players in order of eligibility at each position….I don’t think he was saying the first name was his projected starter.

PG: Wilson
SG: Johnson
SF: Burton
PF: Taylor
C: Fischer

That's a legit starting lineup.  But Henry Ellenson and John Dawson could make the starting lineup, too.  Cohen could be a really solid 8th man next year.  And we haven't even talked about Wally, NN, Cheatham or Heldt yet. Will be fun to watch it unfold.  Of course, injuries, transfers, and players turning pro (whether wise decisions or not) could shift things.  Anyway you look at it, there are some exciting possibilities.  The size, skill, depth and athleticism of that team is very intriguing.  Shooting and defense could be question marks but I'm optimistic that both will be at least serviceable.  Duane should be the marksman with enough other solid shooters on the floor.  Lots of slashers and post players.  Potential to be a good rebounding team.  Very balanced team.  Who emerges as a leader(s) and will the team chemistry be good?  My predictions: I will say yes to the latter, with Steve Taylor and at least one other player becoming the leaders.

looks decent but Duane will be our starting PG and Dawson and Wally will be sitting next to FR kelly

Don't think so, Mark. HC (Cheatham) is listed first at the 2.

i really liked dawson's game from an "eye test" perspective last year.  will be interesting to see how things shake out, but wojo surely has good options.

No chance Ellenson doesn't start from day 1. I gotta imagine that was part of Wojo's recruiting pitch.

For those of you predicting Deonte as a starting SG; why do you think that his game will work there?  I'm not saying that it won't, but I'm a little concerned that he's too used to playing around the paint.

I think that '15-'16's biggest problem for Wojo to solve, might be keeping both Deonte and Henry (and to a lessor extent JJJ and Duane) happy with their usage on offense.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

If Steve has a breakout lazar or jimmy style year he'll start, if Burton continues to be Burton he'll start.  That's your 4 and 3. Can't see henry playing 2 and he's said he doesn't wanna be a 5.

If Burton wants to get into the Association, it will have to be as a 2 guard. Part of the reason I wouldn't mind seeing him as a two. He's got the slashing ability of a two, if his 50% 3P shooting (on 8 shots) was indication of a future perimeter game, he could do just fine.
