Marquette isn't a mid-major program, in a mid-major conference, that is fading from relevance on a poor television network.

Mid-majors don't..

...hire Coach K's top assistant
...bring in what might be a top 5 class in the country
...invest in their facilities like we have seen in the past week

So for all the hand-wringing we saw when Buzz left, let's be clear.  Marquette may not be elite.  Marquette may never repeat its success of the 1970s.  But Marquette is damn good, and very relevant in the world of college basketball.

The next few years are going to be REALLY fun to watch!!!

Buzz laid the groundwork for getting Ellenson...

Is that accurate?  Everything I've read is that we were in much better position with Stone and pretty much out on Ellenson until Buzzard left and Wojo was hired.  Wojo then had no interest on Stone and got Ellenson to do a 180 on Marquette.

Given the news this morning, I am guessing there are lots of things that are straight right now.   ;D

I've been trying to get someone to define "Mid-Major" for a couple years now.

Mid-Major: adj A college basketball team that is not Marquette.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

You are correct.  But how many assistant coaches at truly elite programs even consider "mid-major" programs?

He may turn out to be a poor coach.  But I think the fact that he even considered MU says something.  For instance, do you think Wojo would have had interest in the Virginia Tech job?

I think he was referring to that getting an assistant of Coach K, maybe the greatest of all time, is a big deal, obviously Wojo is unproven, but its still a great hire.

Exactly... K is possible the greatest coach ever, Wojo was his assistant.

Sentence structure is not the strength of Scoopers, it would seem.

I'm totally on board with the sentiment.... now understanding you're referring to Coach K as best coach of all time.... not Wojo

I'll admit I read #1 to mean that you were saying there's a chance Wojo might be the greatest coach of all time.  I get it now that he's coming from being the assistant to possibly the best in Coach K.

I just love this:  "Now they will need to find consistent shooting and guard play, but things look especially set in the frontcourt.
Not many schools can boast the talent in the frontcourt that Marquette will have.
"

That's a new one for us.

I should have clarified that I meant more as readers, not as writers.

Even if the rest of the sentence was somewhat awkwardly arranged, the choice of "who" over "whom" was a dead giveaway as to whom you were referring.

Disagree with Sultan that Marquette is an elite school that has always held basketball in the highest regarded as proven by its fans's undying support and the large monetary investment in the program.   The high talent level on the team shows Marquette's continuing effort to field an elite, winning team.   I love Marquette basketball yesterday, today and tomorrow!

Perhaps you have already forgotten the comments Buzz made regarding Marquette and, in particular, The Big East on his way out the door to VT.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

So, I'm having trouble figuring out whether you think MU has or hasn't always held the basketball program in the highest regard.  If you think that they have -- what's your disagreement with Sultan?

He thinks Marquette is an elite college basketball program.  I don't think they are because I really only consider 10 or so programs to be "elite."  That was hardly meant as an insult.
