Is Chicos truly the "Great and Powerful" or is he merely "the man behind the curtain"?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Doing their job, has you talking about them.  That's what they want.  My gig has recently changed by the way.  You've seen some of my stuff on the tube in the last 10 years, mostly sports stuff, some Viggle stuff, HBO, etc, but new gig.  I'm sure the Ad guys are happy you are taking notice, whether it is creepy or whatever.  That's what they get paid to do, to get stuff noticed and talked about.

Oh god, I remember that commercial. "What's the paper say about tomorrow?" "Another scorcher." "Cool"

Almost as bad as the ones where they are discussing the size of their "packages".
Have some patience, FFS.

I am not so sure about that.  I am very familiar with the commercials, but before I read this thread, I would have not been able to tell you which provider these commercials were hyping.

Some women's groups are upset.  The puppeteers of America or something is upset.  Always someone.  I remember when we did the Chris Farley spot and people were outraged that his family was going to be upset.  That is, until they learned that his family wanted the spot done.

Their goal is to cut through the clutter, get people talking, buying, etc.

I always laugh when I hear that ad guys are doing their job as long as people are talking about their commercials.

So the guys who made commercials so bad that I have a permanently negative impression of their company did a good job.  Well, I suppose if you can sell it to your bosses that that is a good thing, I guess you are partially good at your job.

I faintly recall some research done during Reagan's term in office that determined that when Reagan was on the TV news, it didn't matter whether the story was positive or negative, if the man himself was on camera, public perception of Reagan went up as a result.

Studies have shown that no one comes away with a permanent negative impression of their company.  Just not how the human mind works over a 30 second advertisement.  The previous run of commercials won a ton of awards, became part of pop culture, Bill Clinton talking about them along with late night talk show hosts, etc.  Some of the ones prior to that, more controversial with people loving or hating them.  Is what it is.  These guys choose to push the envelope and that has been the mantra for many years.  Get people to buy your product, but do it in a way that is  memorable.  That works for some folks, not for others.  Too many commercials out there that people can't recall who made it 10 seconds after it is over, let alone 5 days, or 2 weeks.

Start with the Why. The How and the What are secondary. Branding 101.

Commercials don't make brands. Commercials reinforce the positioning.

Death on call

I think the concept is very clever for that product--I don't (and won't) remember the details about any of the particular ads, but it is a memorable way to deliver the "cut the cord" take away message.  Same concept could have worked for any wireless type product.

...I was sort of wondering where I could get that girl in the red nightie, and if I could get programable strings...

If you want to fix something, make Sunday Ticket much more user friendly.

I should be able to pick which games I want on my mix channel. If I want 3 games in the noon cst slot, give me the ability to pick 3, and adjust the game screen size accordingly. If it's a week with numerous byes, I don't need to see a blank box for Niners @ Cards at 3:05.

Here's what I remember. Creepy wire commercial. What are they selling again?

Love to, problem is when you've been around for 20 years you have to build it down to the lowest common denominator...the set top box.  Genie, could handle it now problem.  HR 24, yup  Below HR 23, unlikely.  So I don't think you will see that for a little while until some of the older set top boxes are purged.  Legacy equipment sometimes rears its ugly head and when you have 20 million subscribers, some that have been around since 1994, well you have all kinds of generations of stuff out there.

I for one look forward to cutting the cord within the next few weeks. So long DirecTV, you weren't any better than Comcast.

WI inferiority Complexes

I have DirectTV, have loved it for over 10 years, and have had MLB Extra Innings for close to the entire time.  Strangely, this season they never show the Dodgers game on the Extra Innings Game Mix, (Ch. 720, which shows 8 games at once).  Not a big deal, but sorta a pain.

The Dodgers TV has been a problem this year as they have set up their version of YES. Cable operators et al are balking at paying the incremental fees for DodgerNet or whatever it's called. Dodger TV is non-existent in most homes in the LA market, for now.

No one is carrying the Dodgers network except for Time Warner Cable who paid $8 billion for the channel.  They then tried to get DTV, UVerse, FIOS, Charter, etc to pay for the channel at extreme prices.  All have said no thus far.  This is why I don't think the Clippers are going to be able to monetize their purchase either, because the cost to carry those sports channels and the demand of the teams \ rights holders to put it on a basic tier and not a sports tier, means huge price increases for non sports fans.

We'll see what happens, but so far TWC and the Dodgers are not doing well in the PR wars.
