Correct.   Al didn't think he was making enough money, agreed to coach the Bucks, but the MU prez did not allow him out of his contract.

When contracts mattered. Now it's all about the buyout.

This isn't accurate.

Al tried to jump to the Bucks. I don't blame him, but let's not pretend like that didn't happen.

Yeah, I do remember that. Don't know the whole story-doubt many do--but if Al really wanted to push it, he could have. Contracts are always being broken--but Al did not break his.

No buyouts then, contracts were contracts. When Raynor said no to Al wanting to leave his choices were to coach MU or not coach anywhere. Al wasn't thrilled but returned.

There are only two guys in Marquette history that I slurp. They are Dwayne Wade and Wesley Matthews.

Who do you "slurp"?

Yes I know this thread is stupid (for the muscoop maniacs)

Who is Dwayne Wade?

I take it that you're a D Wade hater, not a slurper.

Well, I just think you might want to spellcheck so you don't misspell the biggest name ever to come out of Marquette University and one of the top 5 shooting guards ever to play the game.

Jordan, Kobe, West, Robertson, Wade. Top 5 sounds about right.

No, I'm a huge fan of Dwyane Wade.  I asked who Dwayne Wade was, since you are a slurper of him I wasn't sure who he was.

Not arguing but that is a crowded field. Sharman, Earl the Pearl, the Iceman, the Glide could all be ranked ahead of Wade.

Seven and a half years on, and nearly 19,000 posts later, someone finds the key to keeping Chicos in check.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Jordan and West--yes. The Big O-yes, even though he was more a PG. Kobe--no way. he has always had a huge cast around him, is a prima donna, and a borderline convict. The rest you mentioned Keefe-no.

You know, when it was mentioned that Wade was top-5 all-time a few posts earlier, I said, "Yeah right. He's been great but top 5?" But the more I think about it, this list seems pretty darn comprehensive. I wouldn't put Pearl or Drexler over him. Gervin mostly played forward, as did Havlicek and obviously Erving.

So I like your list right the way it is.

Bill Shaman defined the position and he and Cousy formed one of the best backcourts ever. I am not saying that Iceman, Glide, or the Pearl are better than Wade but it could equally be argued that Wade is not better than any of them. There is no correct answer and has the makings of a great bar conversation.
