If you are living on Balboa Island, you're talking $1.8M to $6.5M depending on where and how big

By looking at the place, I would say it is probably closer to the $6.5M figure than the lower one.

Not too shabby.  That price per square foot is crazy.  Makes my West Loop place in ChiTown look like cheap dwellings.

The most expensive part of Newport Beach is Newport Coast/Pelican Hill and Laguna Beach (not Hills).  Some homes in these neighborhoods can go between $20 million and $80 million.

The most expensive zips in the US are Silicon Valley (Atherton, Los Altos, Cupertino Palo Alto), then parts of Manhattan followed by Aspen, and then Newport Beach.

By contrast the expensive home in the state of Wisconsin is $14.5 million, and the state only has 10 homes for sale above $4.5 million.  All of them are in the Lake Geneva area and are most likely second homes.

The most expensive home for sale in Milwaukee is $1.6 million, with 10 homes for sale at $1.1 million or more.

http://www.zillow.com/milwaukee-wi/expensive-homes/

And the most expensive home for sale in IL is the penthouse of Chicago's Trump Tower (asking $32 million) and Illinois has 10 homes asking more than $10 million (Chicago, Lake Forest, Barrington and Highland Park)

I'm well aware....that's why I would never live in Balboa if I had money.  Too many people on top of you.  Pelican Hill is nice...we have friends that live over in Newport Coast and Laguna.

So much of it is funny money.  I truly can't wait to leave this state...not long now.

Why is Silicon Valley so high?  Funny Money = Stupid Tech valuations
Why is Manhattan so high?  Funny Money = Foreign Money
Why is Aspen so high? Funny Money = Destination for Uber Rich Second Homes
Why is Newport Beach so high?  Funny Money = Foreign Money

Why are homes in the Midwest not so high (relative to these locations)?  No Funny Money

Well, climate and location (i.e. views, access to things) have a little to do with it as well.

Yup, plus access to capital, other rich and famous, the beautiful people, etc.  The rich and famous like to be with other rich and famous, and mostly those aren't found in the midwest.

Chicken/Egg ... Location (access to things) comes if you have Uber Rich.  Get enough of them in your city and things will follow.

No doubt Climate helps.  But the largest congregation of billionaires is

NYC, 70
Moscow, 64
London, 54
Hong Kong, 40
Beijing, 34
Shanghai, 23
Paris, 22
Los Angeles, 19
Chicago, 15

Shouldn't be too hard to figure out if you are willing to do the digging. Agate is only two blocks long, and one end is mostly commercial.

No obvious Marquette flags on Google Maps Street View:
Have some patience, FFS.

Connecticut estate sells for $120 million, a U.S. record

By Lauren Beale

A Greenwich, Conn., estate called Copper Beech Farm has sold for $120 million, making it the most expensive recorded home sale in the U.S.

Priced as high as $190 million, the 50.5-acre estate centers on an 1890s French Renaissance-style home of 13,519 square feet that sits on 4,000 feet of waterfront....

I thought about taking a picture of the place (flag in shot) and posting it here but if felt a little "stalky".
