Let's Go Warriors

Can you see him guarding the 4 spot in the Big East on at least a situational basis?  I can see him doing it for short stints and causing nightmare match-ups on the other end.  He is most definately strong enough to do so.  He also seems to have a long wing span.

I also think his offensive game has so far just been the tip of the iceburg.  His shot shows a lot of potential to me.  And I think you will see him show range out to 18 feet next season.

He can do it for short periods of time. Dujuan Blair did it regularly at 6'5 1/4"

Avenue Commons

Lazar Hayward played the 5 in the old Big East.

Burton is an athletic outlier. He can handle college 4s.

Burton next year...monster, well at least well on his way to monster.

Burton is a dominant player who is a game changer.  We need 7 more players like him.

What's his wingspan?

rocket surgeon

he should have had more playing time last season.  he was drawing some attention, freeing up other guys which we really needed.  too much packing it in and daring us to comer inside or forcing us to try to inbound the ball under our basket

I think he could handle the duties at the 4 simply due to his strength. Reminds me of Hassan Adams who primarily manned the 4 on a guard heavy Arizona team in 05.

WarriorFan

He guarded the 4 a few times this year... and didn't do a bad job.  He's a steal threat against any position and will become a shot blocking threat as he understands the defense better.

If I'm the new coach I'm game planning like a banshee around this Burton guy. Just like Bert did,    not.

I'd ride him on the pine for another year, just so he can observe and pick up the nuances of the game, reveal some character, etc.

Absolutely....Burton is going to be the best player at MU since D-Wade.  Period.  Ultra talented.  Assuming Todd is back...we have two legitimate 15+ per game scoring threats that will be nice complementary pieces.  If only Buzz would have gone to Burton for 25+ minutes from the start of conference play...and the same with Dawson.  What could have been...just wasted Davante's senior year.

Hopefully, they pick it up on the defensive end, otherwise 15+ game will turn into 20+ going to opposite way.

I'm really curious to see if Todd is back.

Mayo and Burton are two of the teams better defenders....Burton had the best defensive rating on the team....the notion that he's a BAD defender was a complete fallacy.  He might get beat off the bounce a few times and as a result look like a bad defender - but his anticipation/ball skills/shot blocking - were the best on the team.

Next Year Burton and Mayo should play the entire game with a few breathers each half. No reason to ever take them off the floor other than blowouts. I think they could be producing at the same level as DJO and Jae upwards of 19 a game.

You seriously mean the start of your post?!

I love Deonte, his offensive skills are jaw dropping for a kid one year removed from high school.  The ease at which he scored against Xavier (tournament) was astounding.

I would think there will be a major jump in his defense next year just with the year under his belt at this level alone, but I think it's jumping ahead to worry what position he'll guard, I'll be happy to see him just guard someone next year.  Walk before you can crawl with his defensive development.

I agree completely. As long as he is guarding someone I will be very happy.

I think his steals might have skewed the numbers just a bit  ;D

Dejuan Blair is 6'7....... And averaged 9 boards a game as a Frosh, Almost 13 as a Soph in less than 30MPG in both seasons....

I'd die happy if Burton went from his 2.2 Rebounds a game to anywhere near 10... But he was severly underplayed last year 12.6 MPG from brett was a joke.
