Not even close to Barkley. Maybe an Adrian Dantley like presence.

Agree to disagree....Dantley was a taller/leaner player compared to Burton/Barkley.  Dantley didn't have nearly the athletic ability Burton has.

A 6'4 'grandmama' Larry Johnson?   Lazar without the 3 pt skill?   Shorter Jae Crowder?

I think Burton is more explosive off the dribble and a more explosive leaper than all of those guys.

He's a better version of Jeronne Maymon.

Dantley was listed same as Burton - 6'5". I really doubt either is that tall. And until the last couple years when he slimmed a little, Adrian was pretty stout. I would guess in the 225 lb. range.

And no, Dantley didn't have the athletic ability of Burton, but had more basketball smarts. He was a 6'5" (?) guy who was always in the lane or posting up. Used his body a lot like Davante where he used his size/strength to keep defenders off of him when shooting.

Larry measured 6'5 1/2" in stocking feet at pre-draft combine. Had an inch and some strength over Deonte. Deonte is probably more explosive but Larry was a very athletic, powerful player.

Deonte will not have the stats that Larry had. In 2 years he averaged 22 and 11 at UNLV after 26 and 12 in Junior College.

I think he is going to be so good he could be POY for BE by his JR year. That said did anyone else think he looked gassed at times when he played for nice stretches?  Just think he needs to take his conditioning very serious in off season and then sky is the limit.

Absolutely agree.

Burton is a terror athlete who showed that he can dominate.  That's exactly the kind of player that we need.  I thought his defense was really good.  He was one of our steal leaders.  Buzz's defense was confusing and poorly taught this year.  Chicos is way off base again suggesting that Burton sit on the bench.  Are you kidding???

Shack

Reminds me of Alando Tucker. If he's close to that type of player expect nice things for him and the team.

Since Tucker was 1st team AA, I'd take that comparison.

I believe Burton will be a four year player and the first 2000 point scorer at MU.

Here is an acceptable model based on the production you think Burton put out.

                                      222 pts first year
33 games a year x 15 pts = 495 pts/year
33 games a year x 17 pts = 561 pts/year
33 games a year x 22 pts = 726

2004 pts total

Sometimes I use teal, sometimes I'm hopeful the teal isn't needed.   Trust me, I don't want Burton sitting on the bench....I've seen plenty of Buzz's boner coaching in the last year to know how criminal it was to have it repeated again this coming year.

How's Burton's Dad?

Not seen or heard from what I can tell, which is an automatic upgrade from Maymon's dad.

Assuming he does not get injured, I believe he will score more than 500 points next year.

He'll need to if this team is to win more than 15 games next season.  Seriously, outside of Mayo and Burton where is the scoring 35 points/game we're losing from Gardner/Jamil/Thomas going to come from?

Tums Festival

As his game progresses I could see him becoming an Adrian Dantley type player. Not saying to that exact level, but certainly similar aspects such as going inside to the hoop and drawing fouls. Dantley was a beast.

Dantley went for 19/9, 30/10 and 29/10 in his 3 years at ND. No way Deonte even comes close. But Dantley's work was all done inside 15 feet, so there is a comparison to be made.

But Dantley was a great, great shooter from the first time he stepped on the floor for ND.

The Big East isn't particularly tall.  we could go with a 'Nova-like 4 guard attack.  Play fast and trap.

Starters:
Du Wilson
JJJ
Mayo
Burton
Taylor

Bench:
Anderson
Hill
Cohen
De wilson
Dawson
Etc

Anything is better than this year starting 4 guys that can't/won't shoot

If George T. is "Brute Force,"

then is Deonte, "Brute Force II"?  ........or "Brute Force 2.0?"
