I really don't understand why we care about Dwyane Wade's opinion on who we hire as a coach. What is he supposed to say? I think it was an awful decision? I care about our current players and recruits! Everyone else is just background noise.

Wade knows Wojo from Team USA basketball, so his opinion doesn't hurt.

Death on call

warriors1991

Dwyane Wade is a household name amongst basketball fans; he is an NBA champ. He is the biggest stud to come out of MU in a very long time. Maybe ever (different argument for a different thread). Tons of young up and coming potential recruits love Wade and LeBron and the Heat and model their games after those guys. When LeBron or Wade talks, young bball players tend to listen. So when he comes out and verbally supports the MU program and keeps reminding young potential recruits where HE went to school........IT HELPS OUR PROGRAM!!!! HIS OPINION MATTERS!!!

Thank you Dwyane.

Looking forward to Wojo's Warriors.

Wojo is also the Assistant Coach for Team USA basketball. That is a huge deal.

99% of people bust their ass in college. I think we would have been better of playing JJJ. He was lucky Buzz is a moron, or he would have been a reserve like he should have been. He was a nice contributor this year but nothing more.
Buddy, you are clearly young if you think that people in college bust their ass.
College kids think a HARD day is 3 hours in class watching someone talk and then 4 hours of studying.  And, no way 99% of college kids study for close to 20 hours a week.  If they did, 99% of them would graduate in four years (i heard about one school where only 20% of their students are done in four).  Don't get me wrong, i'm not judging; I maintained a 3.1 while being plowed half the time, barely studying throughout the semester, and then cramming for a week before finals.

An average day for me today is 6-8 hours a day on the phone (leading discussions and making important decisions), dealing with lists of action items that are generated on those calls and then having 40-70 emails to deal with after that.   Believe me, some of my toughest weeks in college would be a breeze now.

Tums Festival

It's nice to hear people from other schools are envious of this hire:

What? How does Marquette get Wood from Duke and we're sniffing around the likes of St Bonaventure and central fla? #bcbasketball

BC doesn't get why we would hire someone better than they could get? Uhhh... that's just dumb.

I suspect most observers would value Wade's opinion as opposed to yours.

I didn't mock him...but who really cares what his opinion is on this hire? He won't b here anyway.

What the hell are you talking about? He's a former player and forever part of the Marquette tradition. Of course his words are important.

Who the hell cares about your opinion?

Hope all see it this way....the Dawson's are a great family...handled last season with a great deal of class, as I'm sure they were disappointed their son didn't get more playing time...yet by and large were very supportive of team, Derrick, etc.

Thanks we appreciate it!

Interesting that Todd Mayo said Buzz Williams leaving was "a change that was needed." Wouldn't divulge further, but that's telling. #mubb

Dawson was obviously raised by very good parents. I think John will leave a great legacy at MU - both basketball and otherwise.

Wow.

That's ballsy for a guy who had as much trouble as he did. Even if Todd felt that way maybe keep it in house.

Sounds like we were in for Hiroshima and Nagasaki if Buzz stayed.

Yep, time for Wojo to lock this kind of crap down. Family business should stay family business.

Think this sums it up best....and have a feeling Cords got a similar pulse on things...and thus how it all went down - perhaps not a fire, but encouraged to look elsewhere..

Think highly likely JJJ and Steve Taylor were transfer locks if Buzz stayed...Mayo...always a question mark there (not a transfer, but perhaps trying a career overseas).

Yup.  Ask people to name 1 person who went to Marquette and 99% will say Dwyane Wade.  Everything he says about Marquette matters, a lot.  The other 1% will say Chris Farley or Matthews / Butler / Crowder etc.

Well, Cords at the beginning of the presser said the players could take questions. I would concur though that any comments after today would be unwelcome.

Makes you wonder if Vander would have stayed had this happened last year??

Na, Vander had been planning to leave since he started at Marquette.

Looks like Derrick's committed to staying:

Heard again at today's presser that Marquette signee Satchel Pierce,, if released from his NLI, is likely headed to VT to play under Buzz.

Litehouse

Can MU put restrictions on where a player goes as a condition of being let out of their NLI?

Does Va. Tech even have any room?  I know they lost one, but so far it sounds like Harris, Shayok, and Pierce all might try to go there.  Not like that's ever been a problem for Brett.
