1) Shaka 2) Cuonzo. I am not my own source. And neither were a done deal.

Misunderstood your first post. My bad. I was going off the current lineup, not from the very beginning of the search

What the unnatural carnal knowledge?

Did you see how ecstatic this fan base was about Shaka Smart?  Did I miss something, or is Shaka Smart not an African American coach?  Of course he is.

The nonsense with race...Jesus H.   The MU community would have done cartwheels for Smart.  Please don't confuse questions about a particular person as an indictment.  That's a big problem we have nationally where you can't question certain things without that BS race nonsense thrown out.  Has nothing to do with it.
It has EVERYTHING to do with it sometimes for some kids.

Ditto from those who run from the topic of race...it exists! Deal with it.

It is a factor. They hire Wojo...I'm done.

You guys have your wish. No Black coach smh

Now that Martin is out of the running, hopefully atk13thst will go away.  You have been insufferable.

I'm afraid that Buzz is right.  The "Little East" conference is the biggest problem we have.  We are now a "stepping stone" school for a young coach or a final home for aging ex-coaches.  We just can't attract high profile coaches regardless of how high the budget is.  Perception is everything.

like last time we lost a coach to IU after going to a final four and were in the best conference ever...then hired buzz after getting turned down by a number of coaches.

i don't believe the conference has much to do with it.  i can't think of a reason other than pure stupidity that we don't hire howland, but i guess i just have to trust cords, doc, and co.

Regardless of the reason he withdrew, we didn't want him, he didn't want us or there were other issues, what does this say for our search? A bunch of clown amateurs! I want MU to get an impact hire, not some Coach K butt wiper, which it now appears the direction.

What the hell is going on here? Are we that low on the college food chain? If so, go D3 where we can rule. This is not what a real fan wants for MU, but something is sorely missing here. Continuing to hope we can "strike gold" with an assistant really sucks. Impact hire? BS

Might as well settle on Wardle, Cords Team, because you are continuing to dork around, losing precious time. Hell, go for Wardle's assistant. He can learn on the job, and you can get on the cheap.

Remember to take your name off the "fire Cuonzo" petition.  Only 34,999 of you to go!

Not always true, but often guys pull out if they think someone else will be chosen for a job they want.

Very likely the case here.

My take on this is that MU made it's decision and it's not Martin. Martin "withdrew" to save face with Tennessee.

I would expect an announcement tomorrow.

Is it Wojo or Howland?

Smart $$$ is on Wojo
If by smart $$$ you mean moronically spent $$$, then I agree

Somewhere atk13thst jumps off a building. The entire muscoop community rejoices.

Just to spite him, I hope it's Wojo

SuddenSam

Wise move by Cuonzo, if he gets passed by MU (not the other way around) he is definitely in a world of hurt at Tenn.  Fan base base and admin. could not be real excited about him going forward, had he taken it to the mat at MU.  Good for him, good for us.

Ben Ben!

It seems like this ship has sailed, but then again, Goodman still mentions him in everything he writes, so it would seem he may still be in play. Dude's been on the money where this search is concerned.

I still contend they subjected themselves to the 'Rooney Rule' and have been making a concerted effort to target minority candidates (In truth, I'd be willing to bet they have some sort of diversity policy that more or less dictates that they do so).  Smart was kept very quiet, while everyone knew they were meeting with Cuonzo before it even happened. Why is that? I don't doubt it was sincere, and Smart is obviously a premium candidate who just happens to be black, but I don't see any way they would have just hired Howland without goings through that 'due diligence.'

I am letting my cynical side show, or perhaps its just the wishful thinking side hoping they announce Howland tomorrow.

GooooMarquette

I've been saying HIRE HOWLAND from the beginning.

Get it done!

Agreed, but knowing MU, they will somehow snatch poop from the plate of sirloin.

But, but, but....what will become of the Martin slurpers?!

Niv Berkowitz

Question - what if....just what if.....MU did what all of us Howland fans hoped for all along. That is...they identified a number of candidates, spoke to them, then finalized who was "best" and went with that person (or the next one, or the next).

Smart was obviously #1. Then you got nothing definitive since then on who a #2 choice is. So....perhaps...they decided to move on Howland and let Martin save face?

God, I hope so. But I'm not willing to say MU is that smart.

It is pretty clear that Howland has WAY to much negative baggage. I mean he didn't even get the Depaul job that he wanted. They hired Oliver instead. That SI article will not allow him to get above a low-major job ever again. He might as well go the Sampson route and be an NBA assistant!!

Good grief. DePaul offered him like $20Million whole he was at UCLA.

Why are you a Marquette fan - you should just leave, find a new team, at least do us a favor and stop posting the same f'ing drivel.

hairy worthen

Why in the hell can't they just get Howland already. The guy wants to be here and would likely stay. No one else available has his track record of success.  If the questionable past is a concern, write some incentives into the contract and make sure he has over sight and is accountable, not that hard.
