Not good...regardless of your opinion on Martin.  The perception will be that we were rejected now by two coaches (even if the first was a reach).  We'd better land someone this week before the tourney is over and people start to focus on why we can't find a coach who wants to come to Marquette (or how toxic Howland must be...if that's really the case).  Perception can become reality if we (and the Big East) don't create some noise.

Kind of bummed out, I wanted Cuonzo!

Some Mental Masturbation tonight, Commons?

Nah. Great consideration and contemplation. Not for naught. Because I sincerely care about this university and its basketball program.

Shallow at its absolute worst level. Higher level concern at its highest. But not masturbatory.

You guys have your wish. No Black coach smh

What the unnatural carnal knowledge?

Did you see how ecstatic this fan base was about Shaka Smart?  Did I miss something, or is Shaka Smart not an African American coach?  Of course he is.

The nonsense with race...Jesus H.   The MU community would have done cartwheels for Smart.  Please don't confuse questions about a particular person as an indictment.  That's a big problem we have nationally where you can't question certain things without that BS race nonsense thrown out.  Has nothing to do with it.

Only the weakminded care what others think of themselves.

Marquette University and Loyola-Chicago did a great deal of heavy lifting to advance the role of African Americans in college basketball.

Sounds like the mindset of someone settling for playing in a mid major conference.  The new Big East is in its infancy right now.  The words out that we already lost a successful coach due to dissatisfaction with new league and TV deal.  The Big East performed pretty dreadfully in its first tourney.  I'd be very concerned about what others think of us and the league right now.

My take on this is that MU made it's decision and it's not Martin. Martin "withdrew" to save face with Tennessee.

I would expect an announcement tomorrow.

Is it Wojo or Howland?

Smart $$$ is on Wojo

I think this is right, sadly (sad about missing out on Howland)

rabid652

Of course, hiring wojo this week would probably stem to tide.

Maybe, but that is no reason to make rash decisions. I hope MU wouldn't just rush to failure because they are worried about outside perceptions. When Buzz was hired I questioned the process, but I also said that it's never too soon to hire the right person. In this case, the inverse is also true.

I won't pre-judge Wojo before he even has a chance to show what he can do if he is the one, but I am concerned that he won't be the type of hire that will keep recruits on board. Truly, that is the biggest disappointment with the whole Shaka fiasco; I feel pretty confident he would have kept the incoming class. Can't fault Cords etc.., they made a strong play for him.

Would it make you feel better if you knew that Wojo already had pre-existing positive relationships with 3/4 of the recruits? I don't think Duke offered any of them, but they did sniff around to see what was there. And who did Duke send to do the sniffing?

Yes! Not like sniffing glue or drugs or something. Like a sniffer who finds talent! Like one of those pigs who finds truffles or something...this metaphor is breaking down...crap...it's a simile

It's more likely that Wojo's relationship with Doc is a bigger factor here. This is pure speculation, but I would assume Austin playing at Duke is a factor here.

My concern about Wojo would be his ability to recruit without the Duke brand and his daddy Coach K there to seal the deal. He could be great, but you never know how assistants will handle the transition.

My second concern is longevity, but that is always an unknown. See Williams, Buzz.

Oh I'm sure Doc is in play. I was just responding to a scooper who was considered about recruits bailing if we hire Wojo.

So you think Cuonzo was the current number 1 candidate for MU? And Cuonzo was the one who walked away?

1) Shaka 2) Cuonzo. I am not my own source. And neither were a done deal.
