It appears we do have time.

But... And here's where people miss the point - someone could swoop in and get Howland. There are SO few people ever as qualified... That's the rub. The fear of losing him.

That's why I'm a drama queen to get him locked up now and to stop dickin around.

I am glad his name hasn't been floated anywhere else I guess.

Someone on a previous blog mentioned----PETE GILLEN, he is a solid coach, would be a darn good fit. Stability.

He's 66 years old and hasn't coached in over a decade. Pass.

Spot on.

As or right now, along with here; you have the Wake, Boston College,  Washington State, possibly UNLV (if Dave Rice takes the USF offer) and USF (if he doesn't). I've heard Howland's name associated with every single one of them. He is the hot chick at the prom who wants to dance with us first, but if the powers that be don't act soon, she will be dancing elsewhere.

Sorry but once Shaka said no, it should be Howland or bust. Martin wouldn't be a horrible hire but he wouldn't exactly bring me to a high level of excitement. Yes, I am aware he made the Sweet 16 this year. He also beat an Iowa team that played like complete crap down the stretch, a grossly overseeded UMass and Mercer. He has been otherwise mediocre in his career.

Those other programs aren't going to pony up 2+ million for a coach.  Don't forget, we outspend them all.  Howland is just playing offense and getting his name associated with those schools to force MU to pay a higher price and make a move.  Remember, it was reported that Howland was interested in the MU job, first.

The UT coaching staff has been in contact with its incoming recruiting class about Martin being linked to the Marquette opening, one of UT's four 2014 signees, who requested anonymity, told the News Sentinel on Saturday. The player said staff members have told signees through text messages that they look forward to coaching the signees and that the signees should "ignore the rumors" about Martin.

You can take that 2 ways.....

A.  It's not happening
B.  Don't fly off the handle and stir up more controversy while Martin is schmoozed by MU.

What if it went like this?...

Ben: I luv MU. go Warriors.
MU: We need to do our due diligence on others, but we think you are our guy. New Pres, we're talking to AD's, etc.. unusual situation for us and for various reasons we need to at least consider/explore a bit more.. but we think you are our guy.
Ben: Great. I can wait. I will tell you before I get close to accepting elsewhere if things unfold that way, but MU is where I want to be.
MU: Excellent.  Soon, my man, soon. Leeeggggooooo!

Probably pretty close to the truth. If MU is truly interested in Ben, he knows how things stand.

Could have gone:

Ben: Hey guys! Sorry about your coach but I'm really interested in the job.
Marquette: Appreciate it, but the SI article and way you deal with players scares us away. We are going a different direction.
Ben: Ok, I want too much money anyways. I'm pulling my name out.

Who has a job opening comparable to MU that we should fear?
Ben wants the job, people. He's not going to run off to Marshall with the MU job still open.

Or better yet.....

(Yesterday)
Ben - hey Mr Cords. I see you have a new president and you will be acting AD for a year now, right?
cords - yep. That's right.
Ben - soooooooooooooo
Cords - soooo what?!
Ben - soooo bite me. I'm off to Wake.
Cords - alrighty then. We look forward to hiring a mediocre coach next month. We are. Mar-quette.

Ben: "I'm off to Wake."
Bill: "Oh, have they interviewed you?"
Ben: "No."
Bill: "But you're at the top of their list?"
Ben: "Well, um, not that I've heard."
Bill: "But they're moving swiftly on their coaching search?"
Ben: "Not exactly. Their AD was quoted as saying not to expect a hire anytime soon."
Bill: "Oh, I see. Well, good luck with that."

Don't forget that he didn't show up to coach the game last night, until the 2nd half.

That makes him the ideal candidate to replace Buzz, right?

Wait...did I see Pete Gillen mentioned?

If folks are into liberal timeout usage, he's a great option.
