I'd say MU did Buzz the huge favor. Particularly in how the university graciously allowed him to save his face while gettin' chit canned. Unfortunately, Buzz' true character was revealed upon his exit. His massive ego just wouldn't let him exit stage right, would it? I can tell all y'all, for a fact, that this was gonna be his last season here, one way or another as early as mid-February.
A distrubin' trend has developed where a decision has been made, with all good intentions, to essentially prostitute ourselves to the men's basketball coach or his replacement. I get it, really do. But, Crean, Williams, and now Smart have all been catered to and every wish has been granted. It's a bad policy to set and has and will come back to bite off our nut sacks.

Doc

There was once a time when the coach knew he worked for the university and not the other way around. Al McGuire was offered the head coaching job of the Bucks. When he went to Fr Raynor for permission to leave Marquette Fr Raynor told him all sides were expected to honor the contract signed between them. Al stayed and continued to give Marquette his very best.

Crean was fired March 31st, 2008.

Why do people get that date wrong?  He left on April 1st.  Unless you're trying to suggest he was fired at MU the day before, which .. whatever.

Indiana is still a blue blood? Is it because they dont play in the CBI? When does the shine wear off on that status? Since 1987, that program has been to the FF twice (and a NC game once (and lost)). Goodbye Indiana, hello....UConn (three national titles since 87)?
I actually think Wisconsin has become a poor man's version of what Indiana once was...hence the court storming.

The story I have heard is that we offered Sean Miller, he said no. We then talked to Tony Bennett but we did NOT offer him. He made it clear that he would bolt for Wisconsin should Bo be fired. We then offered Buzz.

Not sure about Anthony Grant.

Anthony Grant was at VCU and was in MU's target sights.  It was Miller, Bennett, and Grant.

Hey now.

I have a good friend who is a professor at MU.

I also have niece that once dated Jimmy Butler.

So you can use me as a source if you want to! ;)

When I was in high school, I knew a guy who's sister dated then-Bears-QB Jim Harbaugh, who went on to become Crean's brother-in-law.

Obviously, I know exactly what happend when TC left Marquette, but have way too much class to discuss it.

You are now my #1 source!

That's interesting. I'm not sure this has been discussed on here, but what kind of guy is Strong? Is he a silent, behind the scenes type or more of a pushy type? I guess what I'm getting at is when "Marquette leadership" is discussed by former coaches and candidates, are we talking about Wisconsin avenue or Strong? Could it be that Buzz "left" not so much because of the lack of AD/President/down year but because he'd had enough of Strong/Strong wanted him gone?

Don't know Strong at all, only hearsay. Said to be quirky as hell. To the point of lining up all the light switch screws in the same direction throughout his former office building in Menomonee Falls. Known to be very tight with Cords.
When one donates the kinda scheckles he has, their ego will not allow a "silent involvement."
Strong is not a Marquette alum. Said to have picked up our cause as a direct response to Ab Nicholas backin' UW. That's the kinda competitiveness those former co-workers and partners have.

BINGO

Which is what I have argued here for so many years.  TC left, middle of the night, players found out on ESPN, blah blah blah.  We all get it.  Having said that, he didn't leave MU in a bad spot, actually left Buzz Williams here, didn't blast the conference, the school, etc on the way out.  Didn't get the AD fired which is now being used against us to hire a replacement.

No one could predict the Buzzard would do this, but I again find it amazing the anger, venom, etc for Crean's departure....TO A unnatural carnal knowledgeing BlueBlood mind you, while we have the Buzzard leaving for LESS MONEY to Virginia unnatural carnal knowledgeing Tech and badmouthing MU all the while.

I'm sorry, but who did more damage to MU on the way out?   At some point I expect a light bulb to go on for people especially with the latest actions, but the density is awfully thick for way too many.

I was never sold on Buzz when he was hired, but I was pleasantly surprised by his success. That being said, these are excellent points and it really puts everything in context. Also agree with your latter point that he was handed an absolute golden ticket, and in the end was as ungrateful for it as possible.

The guy's a hick and a hillbilly. That's about as nice as you can probably put it. I can think of other words traditionally used for many Southerners.
