Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

You if anyone knows your stuff. We need one guy to say yes and everyone else can stand pat. Our job is best in country this year and guys are lining up. If we dance with Shaka for a week and nothing happens it might be time well spent.

ChicosBailBonds

So the guy saying DONE DEAL says it is dead?  Well, it would seem to me Miller, IWB, Bullseye are connected....that's not a bad thing, they should be based on their jobs, etc.  If Bullseye says it then it only makes sense IWB and likely Miller say the same thing.   Mark started pushing others, however, a few days ago like NIU's coach.  But early on he was all in as well.  Probably all getting the same information from the same source or sharing amongst themselves?

For the record...I want Marshall. I am not banging on Shaka drum because he is my only guy. I think he would be great hire and hope we get who school wants.

Hope so.  In 2008 I was on vacation when the announcement came.  I'm going on vacation tomorrow for the next 8 days skiing.  Can't imagine we have a vacancy when I return.

OK, then here's another question I have: how sure are we that Howland will not make a move to Wake (BC ain't happening) if we keep stalling with this Shaka fiasco?  The difference between him and the next candidate (sans Marshall) is pretty great in my opinion.  I probably prefer Howland to Shaka anyway, especially after hearing all of the demands he's asking for and not coming through on.

onepost

In other words, are we thinking that he's given us the OK to check out Shaka/whoever and that he won't do anything until we've made a move?

I'm down with that.

Here's my view. We just lost a coach that didn't really want to be here. Why spend so much time trying to woo a guy who seems like he doesn't want to be here?

So, with his record, would Shaka be such a hot commodity if his name was Bob Jones?  Does the cool name play into the mystique?

There's definitely something about the guy that makes him the "cool" candidate.  IMO, his being Black helps in that respect.  He campaigned for Obama and is an outspoken liberal politically, which endears him to the vast majority of sportswriters and the media in general, as well as college kids.  This all makes him seem a bit larger than life and, in all reality, better than he's actually been as a coach.  He's the "it" guy, no doubt about it.  If he had come to MU, I have no doubt Hill affirms his commitment immediately.

Was in the bank a few days ago, and guys in line were actually talking about Shaka Smart possibly coming to MU and how great it would be.  You never hear people talking about MU.  The topic had captured the public's imagination.

Seems like the right spot to repost these thoughts, which I originally posted on the CS twitter feed two days ago.

Although I got caught up in Shakawatch like everyone else, I was never convinced he was the absolute best candidate.

It was pretty clear he was prioritizing TO% as his top focus. Except that it should be eFG%

VCU's eFG% hasn't been great. Twice in the 200s offensively; worse than 100 defensively 3x. Granted, I would have had a lot of fun complaining about eFG% for the next six years, but it definitely concerned me.

He wasn't a slam dunk or significantly better than any other candidate.

You're awful. Just awful. Posters on the VCU board are howling at your expense right now. I feel sorry for your offspring.

I just thought I would share a quote that I heard tonight from someone close to the program. "Lack of AD is [messing] things up. Anything you hear is bullsh!t."

Do you have the same info for A.Miller, Marshall, or Martin. I would expect all may be better.

I think that was obvious when cords said he was staying for another year.

Henry, have always appreciated your posts.

Allow me to share my thoughts on the issue. I do think Shaka is still finding the proper balance with his system. I believe his ideal version is closer to something that Florida runs. He's just needed the right athletes. I consider it a minor miracle that his numbers have been what they are with the recruits he's had to work with. Mostly 1 and 2 star guys that were brought in for CAA play. He's finally bringing in the big guns beginning with next year: ~6'8" guys that have guard-like skills and can press effectively.

I've been told that he talks to Pomeroy on a regular basis and I have no reason to doubt that fact. So, if that is in fact true, I'm sure he's well aware of the eFG% issue. His offense is evolving so I'm willing to give him a few years with the newer recruits to see if he can balance the two ratings.

At this point, I don't really care if Shaka fixes his eFG% issue or not.

My point was that he wasn't a slam dunk.
