He wants the job and is extremely qualified to do it.

Shaka would be great but if he was interested, we'd probably know by now.  Wardle, Martin, Weber?  No thanks.

The word was Howland withdrew.

It looks like MU is all in for Shaka, who is playing MU.

One of these two would be fine, but at the rate this is going, it could be disaster. Why keep dancing with the guy that will turn you down?

This. If Shaka's says no or is still non-committal by tomorrow, this needs to happen.

I do still think there's a chance with SS, but this should be our all-in moment with him.

No thanks. Why are we still flinging crap? Honestly.

Where has in been reported that Howland withdrew his name?
"Every day ends with a Tums festival!"

If they announced Howland tonight I'd be ecstatic and NEVER look back.  Just get it done.

While I'd love the Shaka hire like everyone else, I've been saying this to folks all week. If Smart had never entered the picture, and MU announced Howland Sunday or Monday, most people (myself included) would have be ecstatic. Now that Shakamania has been a thing for days, I think even Howland would be perceived as a loss to some.

He's the same Ben Howland as he was on Sunday, and would be a great hire.

I thought his deadline was yesterday, the Shaka train has gone IMO or he is just playing MU.  MU has supposedly been in communication since Sunday and he still can't decide?  Screw him and sign Howland NOW.

Think about the upside of Shaka.... if we get him and he's successful, we'll get to do this all over again in three years.

Sign Howland now.

How is Shaka playing MU? MU went to Shaka, not the other way around. He has done nothing different than any Executive, who is worth his salt, would do.

Did you send this message to Cords? I'm sure if he was aware that you'd be ecstatic with Howland he would have closed the deal by now.

Seriously, I'm glad many of the posters here aren't part of the decision making process.

If they went to Shaka, it was over a week ago. They should have secured an answer by now. If they have not, then they are pounding sand, and wasting time. it is not rocket science. You move on. People are still saying they are involved.

You're so witty!!! No, no you're not.  Not to mention that brought nothing to the conversation.

Exactly, if he still can't make a decision, time to move on.  Now you are just wasting time.  Meanwhile, Howland tells MU he's really interested and MU is telling him to wait.....sooner or later, he's gonna say screw you, I'm going to Wake.

There are a lot of execs running big corporations that initially said no.

1. There's been not one slightly credible report that Howland has pulled out.

2. Where else is he going? Wake has other candidates higher on their list, it seems (Mack, Smart, Marshall, Haith ) and they seem to be in no more of a hurry than MU; BC seems focused on other candidates, as well. What's that leave? Washington St. South Florida. Houston. I'm guessing Howland is willing to wait for MU before settling for one of those gigs.

Realistically, MU is the big domino here.

Or maybe we shouldn't panic like a nerd trying to score a date for the prom.

Maybe MU knows that there are other really good options that will wait by the phone until we make a final decision.

Maybe none of us have any clue about the status of the potential candidates so we should probably not presume that we know the best course of action to take.

How many kids does he have?

source?

Yep, after a brief ride on the shaka coaster I am on board the Howland express. Bring on the 3 time final 4 coach.

Hope it's not too late. But I fear it may be. As far as we know, MU is still chasing Smart and leaving Howland on the back burner.

Howland has his pride...and probably doesn't need the money...so he could tell MU to shove it.

Howland signed a contract in 2007 that would pay him 2M a year for seven years.  I would presume he is financially secure.

That's my point. If he doesn't need the cash, how long will Howland allow himself to be MU's Plan B.

I would guess not very long at all.
