Im guessing biding time. Shaka is out, Howland wants too much $$, they must be interested in that UVA guy.

GoldenWarrior11

May be in the minority, but I am really impressed with Cords.  Love the fact that he stated we have facilities to help coach reach final four and NCAA Championships.  We are no stepping stone...

CTWarrior

I have avoided making any comment whatsoever on MUScoop since Buzz left, because I have nothing useful to add other than uninformed opinion and didn't want to clutter the board when people were looking for real information.  But I think the one little bit of information that did come out of this press conference is really bad.

Isn't Cords staying for one year a detriment to hiring a new coach?  "I'll be your boss for one year then we'll pick somebody else.  Let's hope you like them."  That kind of uncertainty cannot be appealing to a perspective coach, can it?
Calvin:  I'm a genius.  But I'm a misunderstood genius.
Hobbes:  What's misunderstood about you?
Calvin:  Nobody thinks I'm a genius.

This was essentially a press conference saying, "Just wanted to let you all know we are doing our jobs and the things anyone with a brain figures we are doing. We are just doing it 'live' in front of you, with cameras."

J-o-k-e.

It makes us look stupid. It hurts the perception of the athletic department/school. Sorry. But it does. Gives people a bad opinion....like they are watching amateur hour.

And, once someone has a negative view on someone/thing, you have to work three times as hard to get them swayed back to positive. This does not help that.

NavinRJohnson

You guys are unbelievable...where they are, who they've talked to, who they,ve contacted, who's contacted them, is none of your damn business. They aren't in a rush. Obviously dont feel they need to be. It doesn't make them look bad at all...you feel they owe you something, you want to know now what's going to happen tomorrow, the next day or a week from now,but you don't get to. That's what bothers you. Just admit it.

Well if you have to say you are not a stepping stone, then you probably are.

slingkong

@Navin, No harm done. He couldn't actually tell anyone "where they are" so why say that that was, in fact, the purpose of being available? So I just don't see how it was at all useful to anyone at all.

The only people upset about this press conference are Scoopers who are temperamentally following every potential movement of this coaching search.

Totally correct.

::) You've been overreacting to everything.

THEN WHY HAVE A PRESS CONFERENCE?

I am very, very optimistic.  Cords is the man!  I honestly mean that.  This guy (Cords) is on point!

Announce himself as AD for the rest of this year and all of next year?

Unless the coach is promised significant influence on the new AD. Plus, didn't Goodman tweet that at least one potential coach viewed the Prez as more important than the AD?

Nothing wrong with giving media members an official update. Even if that update doesn't shed light on much progress.

PuertoRicanNightmare

Why can't somebody ask a real freaking question...like, "when will Marquette restore it's basketball identity by going back to 'Warriors'?"

Didn't make me look stupid.

Guess what, nobody outside of MU circles cares anyway.

Milwarriorkee

In that chat, Keefe said Shaka was out, Weber was in.  Care to elaborate?

ecompt

This was a polite way of telling us that MU will conduct a thorough search and then give the job to Wardle or Jeter.

MattP33

It makes me wonder just where the search actually is.  Howland wants the job....seemingly too badly.  Not encouraging confidence on my part.  Shaka doesn't seem to want the job....also not great.  Wardle isn't a big name guy, though he is an alum.  Where is our next list of candidates going to come from?

Tell that to Kentucky who has had three coaches in 7 years.

"we have the resources to help a coach get to final four and win a national championship" - I hope that means they're willing to pay the market price for top coaches - we all know they are willing to pay to keep someone, but is Marquette truly willing to pay a top free agent price as part of all those resources?  Its been sounding like no.

I fail to see how this presser makes MU look bad. The only people that have a problem with it are the fans that want immediate resolution.
