Speeding up the President announcement to yesterday and now an announcement today showing some stability in AD, at least for a year with a proven director.  This presser was not meant for the general public.  So, yea, this was important.

This is good perspective

But no one (other than us) is watching or paying attention to this.  So I don't think it hurts Marquette at all.  ESPN isn't going to spend one second on this.  It was a vanilla "update" about what's going on.  The only real news related to how they're handling the recruits and Cohen-- which confirmed what was assumed.

There's an echo chamber on the message boards.  No one in the country is paying much (or any) attention to our coaching search.

I see your point and agree that not a ton of people outside the MU community saw this. That being said, WE are paying attention to it. Fans, alumni, ticket holders. The passionate ones. We are the ones coughing up the dough every year to be entertained.

And while it is entertainment....collegiate entertainment...we all love the team/school. Some of us have been over-reacting (me raising my hand!) but I think that is due to the point I was making which is...

MU has bungled a lot of stuff in the past. Some people - like me - are tired of their perceived bungling. Therefore, anytime we see something we perceive as negative, especially when there's a "positive" solution that could easily be obtained IMHO (hiring Howland), we get a little prickly. Because of our past bunglings, I'm more pessimistic on MU finding a coach that I personally love.

Will I disown the team if they take a Weber or Wardle? No. But I won't be pleased about it one bit.

It's these past eff-ups that so many of us on edge, especially the Howland fans like me. Howland isn't being held back a current school/team. He's there. All you have to do is call him, hammer out an agreement, and off we go.

that is all.

In that chat, Keefe said Shaka was out, Weber was in.  Care to elaborate?

Sorry.  Someone logged in under the same name then.

That is good to know (that it didn't come from the real you).

There are a lot of people from Richmond that watched this press conference. We thought it was hilarious. Keep up the great work!  I'm sure Shaka will be showing up at Marquette any minute now.

Listen lets jump to conclusions when there are facts in place.  Lets pretend this goes on until next Tuesday and includes yet another presser/non-presser but we end up with Shaka, is that all ok?  Panic when panic is warranted because no matter how much it concerns you they aren't varying from the plan.

Right now we are all just a bunch of seagulls.....we fly in, make a bunch of noise, $hit everywhere, then fly away.  Don't be a seagull  ;D

Didn't need a password to get in, so someone can put whatever in as user name (I just tried and logged in as "Test"). So looks like a troll tried to stir up some crap.

Keefe, you should be flattered.

Marquette Golden Eagles

After Buzz Williams jumped to Virginia Tech, the big question is where Marquette goes to replace a coach who led the program to five NCAA tournament appearances in his six seasons.

Coaching Changes
Jeff Goodman logs who's out and who's in heading into 2014-15. Story

Despite not having a permanent athletic director -- and finally hiring a full-time president earlier in the week -- the Golden Eagles took a swing at VCU's Shaka Smart.

Smart is a Wisconsin native and Marquette has deep pockets. Sources told ESPN that the program, which was slated to pay Williams $3 million this season, is tossing around a figure in excess of that number to try and lure Smart -- who has declined several high-major gigs in the last few years.

When Marquette finally moves on, there are several candidates in play: Former UCLA coach Ben Howland is in the mix, as is Syracuse coach-in-waiting Mike Hopkins and former Marquette player and assistant Brian Wardle -- who is currently the head coach at Green Bay.

Remember, this is a program that hired a virtual unknown in Williams after Tom Crean left for Indiana -- and it paid off. There's also another mystery candidate, sources told ESPN, that is still playing in the NCAA tournament.

Tony Bennett!

It was Bozo City when Buzz was the Coach, and it is still Bozo City trying to find a new Coach. Getting played by Smart and pissing off Howland.

Looks like Deane is on his way back, or maybe Frozena.

Honestly, what the hell are those clowns doing?

Hunt's Blog:

Other than Bill Cords' commitment to stick around until at least next spring, not much came out of a 20-minute press briefing the interim athletic director held Thursday on the coaching search.

Cords would not confirm or deny that he contacted Virginia Commonweath coach Shaka Smart.

He would not comment on any candidates.

He said the level of interest in the job from candidates has been high.

He said Marquette will get "the best guy."

He said he didn't worry about competition from other schools because he believes Marquette has everything in place to get a top-shelf coach.

He said the former MU president, Father Robert Wild, is involved in the process along with new president Mike Lovell.

He confirmed that assistants Brad Autry and Isaac Chew have been let go and that assistant Jerry Wainwright has been temporarily retained to make sure the current players maintain a consistent schedule.

I've learned that former star Doc Rivers, who currently coaches the Los Angeles Clippers, is in on the hiring process as an adviser.

Come on, in all fairnes,s MU has played it close to the vest, which is the correct way. The last thing Cords wants i the coach hiring taking place here. He knows what he is doing. He is not acting like a clown.

And I'm sure your team will continue to thrive playing in 4,000-seat gyms in the A-10.

muhoops1

But they got a new video board they've been tryin' out.  I think its 480p resolution.  Pretty snazzy stuff and the biggest one in the A-10.  That should be enough to keep St. Louis U and Shaka.  Good times...

I trust Cords. I assume someone else made the call for this presser. Can't imagine it was his idea.

shakanotforsale

How many teams did the A10 get into the tournament vs. the Big East?

In any event, with the #15 recruiting class in the country, plus with the great Shaka Smart at the helm, you'll no doubt have a chance to watch us play in next year's tournament. Good luck with Cuonzo.

UticaBusBarn

Whether or not Marquette should have held a "briefing" for the press, as opposed to a statement, is not much of a question. You have a personal meeting with the objective to take "air out of the ball." That is, slow everyone down, reiterating the parameters of a hire, and being physically present to respond to questions which makes it all more personal and credible.

Despite a lot of folks having their "hair on fire", I believe MU is handling this as it should. These things take a bit of time. You have to be deliberate and thorough in hiring for such an expensive and nationally high visibility position.

Let it work itself out for another week, or two.

Disagree....people are missing the point of that availability presser.  It wasn't to give us an update, it was to make sure certain information out in the public domain.  Essentially going on record with intentions, so that people who need those things made official would see they are official.

Ever read anything on the Cuban Missile Crisis?  Think about some of the messaging that took place their...signalling.  Can't take everything at face value.
