I just can't imagine Shaka letting his associate head coach leave for Rice if he had any inkling of leaving VCU.

This is giving me the most doubt about Shaka to MU.

Unless word spread to Shaka and Rhoades that the latter wasn't next in line.

Tony Benford was Marquette's AHC and he left to coach North Texas. Mike Hopkins is Cuse's AHC and he's been putting his name in for jobs last spring and this spring. Getting a head job isn't easy. It's why everyone thought Buzz was nuts when he left New Orleans to be Crean's assistant.

The AHC tag is typically more indicative of an assistant who is likely to leave because of their potential than of an assistant who is designated as an automatic successor.

Actually, pretty easy as long as you have the money to pay for one.

Rhoades still is "next in line" as much as anyone. Shaka might be the face of HAVOC and is certainly a great coach, but Rhoades was the architect of our defensive and pressing schemes. He's a great X's and O's guy and a good recruiter to boot. He was too good a coach for us to keep a secret, but if Shaka ever leaves I know a lot of VCU faithful who hope Rhoades comes back to take his place.

Seriously? We're questioning whether Doc is still on the BoT or not?

As much as no national media outlet has said SS is interested in the MU job, no national media has said he isn't either.

I can understand that VCU fans don't want to lose SS, but their credibility is almost zero when they report things like MU called SS to gauge his interest and he hung up the phone on them.

I think a fair assumption at this point is SS has interest in the MU job, not sure to what degree, and he's giving MU shot to alleviate his concerns vis-a-vis the school presidency.

No one has said anything like that except for a troll.

Also, I would tend to think all of this talk of "the media hasn't confirmed nor denied" would be more reason to err on the side of caution. Assume the status quo. No?

Did they ever fix the mechanical issues that caused Rhoades's flight/press conference to be delayed?

It's going to be a long 4:15 until this presser.

Just an observation....

With Shaka, there are a LOT of people that have a vested interest in what's going on. And, with that, comes a lot of people that probably have an idea something's going down. More people = more chances for something to leak.

Howland, on the other hand, doesn't have a job right now. No AD, coaches, players or anyone other than family that's worried about his whereabouts. Less chance of "news" leaking.

Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

You think that's bad, just wait til it comes and goes with no new information. Make your head explode.

I was hoping to create one long collaborative post all with one word replies, but I think that is a very satisfying ending.

Once again all we can do is wait. All these reports are useless. We need to hear something from Marquette. Maybe we will today. Maybe. Y

Not that this matters much but are we sure DR is still on the BOT? My source, seriously a source, indicated that he resigned his spot.

This post shows how much absolutely worthless "sourced" material is out there. This "source" has to be the dumbest sh## out there or you are for posting it.

Why is MU busting its collective @ss to land someone who clearly needs a ton of convincing to come here when there is a more highly accomplished candidate, with a long-term track record of success and putting players in the NBA, openly saying he WANTS to be at Marquette?

Oh...and this candidate already did his dance at the "blue blood" school, has a chip on his shoulder from the way it ended, and is highly unlikely (in my opinion) to want to go down that road again, meaning he doesn't view MU as a stepping stone job.  How is THIS not the most attractive prospect?

Anyone?

My feeling as well.  If the new MU prez is flying to Richmond today, hopefully it's with a "take it NOW or leave it" offer...and Cords is sitting in LA waiting to walk over and sign Howland.

I think Shaka should owe MU money when this cluster fack is all done. Still believe we don't keep dragging this onwith him if we didn't have a good shot. If he wasn't interested he would have said no by now. Maybe is still better than a no
How about Matthews? Buzz probably spent a lot of time and recruiting dollars trying to get him and he picked Kentucky.
