Asked this in another thread, but was it true that MU had "blocked out" the time on Wednesday several days ago?  In which case, this move was more proactive - it was determined several days ago, when the search first began, that we needed to name the President.  Or was the decision to accelerate the timeline from "a Board meeting in April" to today something that literally came about 48 hours ago, as a reaction to negotiations and/or national media criticism?  I guess it doesn't "matter" either way, but I'd be curious to know.

Couldn't the president's "day to shine" be the day of his inaugural mass (assuming they still do that since he isn't a Jesuit), rather than the announcement day?

No lack of interest in the job, just the opposite. Moving up President hire is good business and glad it happened early. It paves the way for next big announcement to follow.

I hope so.  Would make sense either way.  My hope is this all goes together with Monday's charade - best case.  Or that Howland is in the wings - worst case.  If worst case is a Wardle-like hire in the wings, I'm upset.

Goose,

I won't ask you for exact details or names...but would you say this coaching search is moving along according to plan? Still believe this will be an impact hire?

I love this. I hope we get a few more announcements (real or not), so it can continue to be posted.

If I had any additional info with 100% confidence I would share on here. I have not heard one thing that has made me uneasy on an impact hire. Again, that said, it has been VERY quiet. Sticking with quiet is good at this point.

Again, that's good enough for me.

Honestly Howland and Smart are my option 1s. Either or. The only reason I am leaning more towards Smart is just to save face from all the VCU trolling that might happen after.

Both are STRONG options for this program. Both are an upgrade from our previous coach.  Howland brings a stable of NBA players to point to, very solid X's and O's, defense oriented and looking to run a bit more in his next program.  Smart brings the name du jour of the past 3 years and loves to analyze everything, a vibrant and fresh system (I'll let Sugar talk about some of his issues with it), and has that "wow" name for recruiting that excites recruits which will allow for a quick recovery if we do lose a few of ours.

Let's get something done!
Assume what I say should be in teal if it doesn't pass the smell test for you.

Quiet is good. I'm positive that VCU is chomping at the bit to put this to bed and they just can't. The moratorium on leaks is definitely adding to the suspense.

I just hope when announcement is made MU references the hire as an impact hire for university and the program:)

Jet915

So impact hire = Smart, Howland or Marshall I wouild assume.

UticaBusBarn

Guys, look at actions not words.

As been noted before, everything is happening very fast. From Brent's departure, to the "leaks", to the assistants being cut loose, to the total silence everywhere, to the announcement today, etc.

I don't think that chaos theory is applicable here.

Hiring Brian Wardle would have an impact.  "Impact" does not necessarily have to mean its a good thing...

For this fan all three are different levels of impact, but yes all impact. Probably one or two others as well.

GoldenWarrior11

I said this last night, but someone behind the scenes better write a book on all the stuff behind the scenes that occurred within the past 2 weeks.

This stuff is just fascinating.

So there are five possible impact hires out there? Do you know names--not asking to disclose--or is your source using the same terminology?

Did we reanimate Al?  That would have an impact on the basketball program, and if biomed is behind it, really have an impact on the university's status as well.

If you read the twitters, a hologram Al McGuire is on our short list for coaches.
