To belittle the role of the AD  is ridiculous.  It has a huge impact on the coach we get.  

If he were already in place, yes...as in, would the coach want to come or not. If not, it's the other way around, the $3M/year coach will impact which AD is hired.

You set yourself up for a lot of issues, if you let the new coach pick an AD.  You're basically telling the AD that he's a tool and you've just told everyone that this new coach wields a substantial amount of power at the university.  Show me any major hire where there was an interim AD and that the new coach was instrumental in picking the new AD.  I'd like to know.

This proves that stability is a key factor in hiring a coach, nothing more.  To say that the next coach is going to come in and run the whole place is ridiculous.  Perhaps you just got done binge watching House of Cards.  If that's the case, then I will forgive your weak, internal, MU political theories.
