Where Marquette stands on its coaching search

Before you read any further, understand there isn't much information in this article that those of you who have followed us on Twitter don't already know. We have waited for the dust to settle and for any rumors to take shape, but none have. Since, for the immediate future, it appears nothing formal is going to [...]<img alt="" border="0" src="http://stats.wordpress.com/b.gif?host=painttouches.com&blog=28348875&post=11589&subd=painttouches&ref=&feed=1" width="1" height="1" />

Hey guys, is Todd Smith gone too? He seemed to be the real glue for the team.

Assuming what this article says is true then I would expect Howland is the logical choice after Smart provided they can come to terms on the money. If not then pickem. Hope Howland is reasonable on the $$$ but if not I see them moving on IMHO which is less than I expected. We will see.

From a track record and likelihood of staying for the long haul standpoint, Howland was, is, and should be the clear choice.

SS might be the sensation now but if a man with THREE final fours and a chip on his shoulder after his last gig wants the job, you break the freakin' bank and give it to him!

Tums Festival

Thank you for the update. Nice to know both Howland and Smart are still in play. Hopefully an announcement is nigh.

Howland is not getting more money than MU.  WF and/or BC are not going to pay him more and give him equal to better perks.

Agree that is likely the case provided emotion does not get in the way.  I expect they will get it done.

Sounds like MU talked, SS listened, MU offered, SS considered.  Even Goodman seems to suggest this much happened.

So when the VCU AD saying their has been no contact it is BS.

You see it that way.

Wardle, ugh.  Hey I loved Brian as a player here but he is simply not proven enough to take over MU at this point.  He has not been involved in nearly the level of recruiting he would have to to succeed at MU.  One good season followed by a home game in the NIT where he got blown out.  Brian will be available 5 years from now when we probably will face another coaching change and if he has the credentials by then hire him.  But right now hiring him would really be settling and we could easily become a middle to bottom dweller in the NBE.  Don't do it!

Todd Smith and Ernest Eugene are both still on staff.

Yes, agree except the BS part. That is, SS/MU may not have talked directly but through someone else. Obviously I do not know the details but I have seen in business and gov't many examples of ways to get around public relations issues such as this. That is, you answer the specific question and not the intent of the question. Guess that could be called BS, shrewed or some other less than desirable terms.

The way things are going, MU may be settling. May have to accept that. Wardle has more HC experience than Crean and Buzz combined when they were hired. Smart or Howland would be best, but this seems to be getting bleaker.

Do you want the lingerie model, or the fat, frumpy girl with the great personality who will stay for the long haul?

There was some guy who said to marry the average looking girl.  Who was that?  Oh yeah...Al McGuire.

This is the same man who drunkenly set off for Ireland in a row boat.  Then again if he was that drunk the average girl probably was pretty hot to him.

No.  Tarkanian was.  Maybe Dean Smith.  Al was the neighborhood girl that was friends with everyone.
