Don't understand the fawning over Smart. He just got outcoached a few days ago.

Don't want Bill Self or Mike Krzyzewski, either.
And Buzz Williams? Pfft. Got outcoached all season.

mhendrick

If Smart can recruit 4 star players to VCU then he absolutely is an impact hire. If he could bring a couple of them
here I don't think the loss of Cohen will bother him at all.

It's not KO. I couldn't resist brandishing the best wry wit this side of Frasier Crane that has made keefe a must read on Scoop

It's not KO? OK, who is it?

I'd say Howland, Smart, and Marshall all would be impact hires.

Agreed.

I'm my book:  Howland > Smart > Marshall...but I'd take any of them.

mhendrick

Impact equals Smart. If he says no then put the full court press on Doc to come home and
coach.

Never happen.

SWARM!

I'm glued to scoop since learning of Brent's departure and am antsy as anyone.  Someone please reassure me that Wardle is not being seriously considered for the job.  I don't care if Howland goes to Wake, Shaka and Marshall stay put, Miller says no or is not an option, and we correctly decide "no way" on Chew or the dude from Manhattan.

Someone please just confirm with utter certainty that Brian Wardle will not be considered, period.  I don't think I'm overreacting here.

MU is a more appealing job that WF at this time. We have best opening and that is why it is generating the attention it is.
yep - seems like Howland would wait to hear from us before moving forward with anyone else

Ben Howland has the best resume with proven success. Shaka is young, upcoming. Both would be impact hires. First time I have seen a name floated for an MU opening that made ESPN's front page, Ben Howland.

You don't need Doc to convince Wardle to leave GB and take the MU job.

Based on Goose's and keefe's comments and tone, SERIOUSLY doubt it's Wardle.

Doc ain't leaving LA and his $7 million salary for Milwaukee. No matter how fond his feelings for MU.

1) Howland
2) Marshall
3) Smart

Thrilled with any but I think the ranking should be in order of demonstrated sustained success at a level beyond what MU has had.

SWARM!

The realistic options are exciting.  For what it's worth, I hear that Marshall will be courted heavily.  I don't know if he'll say yes but I hear he's our #1 target.

I'm on record with Smart/Howland > Marshall >> Miller >>>>>>>>> Chew >infinity Wardle.  I think we will see one of these names, and all but the latter two would make me very happy.

Dish

I knew Marquette spent a ton of basketball, but until I just looked it up, I didn't realize how high it was, more than Kansas. This can be good/bad, but a guy like Howland very much realizes this (as do other candidates).

I think it says a lot about MU in the coaching fraternity that after Crean left, MU still spent heavily on basketball during Buzz's early years, and keep continuing to do so. Makes a big difference. When idiots on twitter say "BC and Wake are better jobs than Marquette", it's almost absurd to listen to.

brandx

Wow, Marshall's offense is fun to watch. What a change that could be here.

Wow, you got that right.  I had no idea he was making 7MM.  I thought it was 4 and even that would be more than prohibitive, even if he sincerely wanted to be here.

Someone should snag Infinity Wardle as a username.

I hated Buzz's plays out of timeouts...what's Marshall do with 3 seconds left and the season on the line??!

Simple, he had Derrick...uh..VanFleet pump a long 3.

The only problem with their tone is the make it sounds like its also a surprising get.

Howland while he would be awesome to have is heavily rumored and almost expected at this point.

Wouldn't even really be something need to be kept close lipped on.

If its smart--Cohen will come back to MU--if asked.

bilsu

I think MU will look good after the hire, but we should not assume the new coach is going to take us to two sweet 16's and an elite 8 in his first 6 years. I would be happy, if we make the NCAA's next year and I think there is less than a 50% chance of that. Howland will not bring in any late recruits this year. Maybe Smart could bring someone in. I am sure Smart has been out recruiting all year. Howland has not been recruiting at all. As far as Kevin O'Neal he wore his welcome out at MU with his foul mouth the last time he was here, I do not think there is any chance he would be rehired.

how long did it take him jump ship? 30 seconds? Shows a serious lack of conviction and fortitude. Don't want him back.
