Come on guys....if a name can't be given, a time frame will suffice. You both are killing me.

Goose and I have compared notes off line and we are hearing identical stories. It's not a done deal but a lot of the heavy lifting has been done. And while it could end up not happening the odds are definitely favoring a deal. Expect a Wednesday announcement.

It is not KO

Nope.  Its Smart.  The recruits will like him and Smart will like the jet to get them.

Oh crap.  Kevin O'Neil part II.

It's not KO. I couldn't resist brandishing the best wry wit this side of Frasier Crane that has made keefe a must read on Scoop

The twitter I saw was Roy Schmidt. He followed up with another suggesting Smart is #1 choice of MU. That would work!!

Goose

To follow up on Keefe's post, option 2-4 are game changers. This will be a quality hire and not a lead assistant from a top program. It will show that MU and NBE can still be an impact. I actually am almost giddy over the prospects.

Don't understand the fawning over Smart. He just got outcoached a few days ago.

Perhaps a Final Four appearance?  Perhaps that he's been in NCAA last 4 years?  Perhaps that he's a Wisconsin native?  Perhaps that he coaches an exciting brand of basketball?  Perhaps that he's been able to get it done at a school with far less resources/tradition...and not in a BCS conference?  Perhaps that he's extremely charismatic and would be viewed by current players and recruits as highly desirable to play for?

Is that enough?  And as for being outcoached against SFA...he can't make the FT's for his team, nor prevent his player from fouling a 3 point shooter...

The bottom line is that Marquette will make a huge statement with this hire. This will communicate that Marquette is a prestigious destination job because of the commitment to success by the University, its supporters and the quality of its conference and the shared commitment to success  of the league members.

The Idiot Savant can spin last week's events in any way he may choose but basketball aficionados know the reality and this hire will enlighten even the most casual fan to the truth behind the change. Aim High, Marquette!

Let's be aware that Wake Forest appears to have narrowed their search to Howland and Shaka

You got me; I chuckled.

I agree. Keefe has been on his game this weekend.

That lack of discipline on that idiotic foul goes straight to the head coach. Smart will be an undeniably popular hire due to his personality but Howland is the better coach. But MU is looking to change the subject from Buzz so they want the flash.

Howland would be a splash, bro.  There's no doubt about it.  It was on the front page of ESPN

Goose

Keefe is ALWAYS on his game. Will add he took it a couple of notches this weekend.

"Lack of discipline."  Come on man...we saw plenty of MU players foul on 3's over the course of the last 10 years...Nova did it against us at home.  Players play, coaches coach.  Was Shaka supposed to make the 2 FTs the kid missed that would have made it a 6 point game with 10 seconds left?

I don't dispute Howland is a very good coach, and I'd be very happy with him at MU...just prefer Smart for the reasons I listed in post you replied to..

Are you saying that Wake eliminated someone they were considering, implying that MU is getting that person? Or are you saying that one goes to Wake and one will come to MU?

That's fine. They can have one, I'll take the other. Either one would be just fine and dandy with me.

Goose

MU is a more appealing job that WF at this time. We have best opening and that is why it is generating the attention it is.

I will second what The Goose posted. Not a done deal yet but if this one happens Marquette will never look back. And for those gnashing their teeth that MU is losing the PR battle to the Idiot Savant this hire will be the Enola Gay launching into the wild blue yonder. The future is indeed bright. Aim High, Marquette!

+1000 Keefe!!!!

Eldon

We have a f*cking jet!!!  Does Wake fly Southwest?

Anyway, Keefe and Goose, thanks for the updates.

Guys, let's not tempt them into trading Scoop fame for the viability of the relationship(s) with their source(s).

Goose started this thread and Keefe chimed in.  Maybe they know someone in the Athletic Department or BOT, time will tell, but they must have some info or else they will be eating crap in a week.  Bottomline is that they stated it is an IMPACT HIRE and I'll go with them. I define Impact as changing the landscape of the program.

Is Howland an Impact Hire - no, but a good hire.
Is Miller an Impact Hire - no
Is Wardle an Impact Hire - ah, no and no
Is Marshall an Impact Hire - who knows, he's beating Kentucky right now with one star recruits.
Is Hopkins an Impact Hire - no

Is Smart an Impact Hire - Yes

I'd say Howland, Smart, and Marshall all would be impact hires.

Agreed. Hope it's one of the three or some name we're not even thinking of that would somehow be even better.

This is funny.  Didn't Todd foul a 3 point shooter this year?  Twice?  In the same game?

Thanks for the updates guys.  I will rest much better, and if I can just get off this board now and get some work done might watch some BB!
