MU gimp ONE

Not sure if anyone has mentioned this or given it much thought, but what about Buzz's Bunch.  Think of the heartache that this is going to cause so many families in the Milwaukee area.  Sure most of us are shocked and feeling a little jaded, but now try explaining it to a small child with a serious illness or handicap.  These kids and their families really found something that could take their mind off their situation for a brief moment.  Now they are left behind to try and figure out why someone who cared so much for them bolts for the ACC.

I'm going to wait and see how this plays out, just like i did when crean left.  The only difference is at least when crean left, the only people it affected was the program and the message boards.  Here i feel for the people of buzz's bunch and hope that Marquette keeps the tradition of helping the community.  this is one area that I'm thankful buzz made such an impact.

I hope the media follows up on the hj they gave Buzz for Buzz's Bunch. This is one of the reasons the departure is sickening.

I hope that whoever they hire continues the program (under a new name of course).

It should be a part of the job description. I actually hope this is Buzz's legacy and the program continues no matter who the coach is. It needs to turn from a Buzz Williams initiative to a Marquette initiative

dude. Sickening? What is sickening?

I agree change is hard, but this is a normal thing. Coaches change jobs.

I'd rather Buzz engage the way he did while he was here than be a vanilla, arms-length guy.

Raising a child with a disability is full of challenges.  Sometimes things like Buzz's Bunch come along that make your life easier or richer for a while.  The kids and the families will carry on.  While I hope MU carries on the program, if they don't, there are plenty of others that help out in other ways.

I agree with this.  The season was over so, I assume, no more Buzz's bunch events were schedule, and would not be until the new season starts.  Plenty of time to figure out what to do with it.

Agree....Buzz having done something and touching those lives while he was here, was better than doing nothing.  Most all relationships in life are temporary....you give the best to them while you are in them...Buzz did that with Buzz's Bunch - and he certainly didn't need to start the program.  He deserves credit for doing so...

Having been part of Buzz's Bunch and witnessed what it was first hand, I can tell you that you really need to grow up.

Even if Buzz's Bunch was a marketing ploy, sometimes mutual interests align.  There is no doubt that it touched the lives of the kids and no doubt that it touched the lives of the others who participated (eg, the players, volunteers).  Overall it was good while it lasted.

WellsstreetWanderer

I sincerely hope and believe that Buzz' Bunch will continue in some form. It is too powerful an event to be discontinued and the players appear to benefit as well.

Absolutely not.

While I think Buzz's Bunch is a truly great program, why would you want to force a new coach to do something that is only tangentially related to coaching the basketball team?  A new coach may have other worthy charitable interests, and to make it a dealbreaker to take this one on is just stupid.
Have some patience, FFS.

Agree to disagree I guess. If someone is really that much of a heartless bastard that they wouldn't want to spend some time with a group of special needs kids, good riddance. It's not all about wins and losses. I also thought it was good for the players, helped them become men with character, which is one of the objectives of this as well

I think the university should take it over, maybe the physical therapy program, and still involve basketball

LloydMooresLegs

The athletic department should embrace it; change the name to Warrior's Way or some such...

I'm with Warrior Chick.  This is a great program that Buzz started but you have to give the new coach the opportunity to have his own passions!  Any coach will see that this is a worthy cause but if he's not passionate about it, it won't be the same!

This.

Do you honestly believe that if we found the perfect coach in every other way, but regarding Buzz's Bunch, he said. "I think it is a tremendous program, and I fully support the athletic department continuing it, but I am already spending a tremendous amount of my off-court time working on my pediatric cancer foundation.  My nephew died of it, and I promised his parents I would do everything I can to help find a cure", Bill Cords should stand up and say,  "Don't call us; we'll call you"?

And the new coach wouldn't be the heartless bastard; Buzz is.

"And Ben, we know you are from California, but we want you to continue the annual BBQ feed because, well dammit, it's part of who we are. And the whole Boot Camp thing...look we all know it's BS but the TV commentators all like to talk about it so we need to continue that, too. And we went over miles of game tape and we notice you don't sweat like a fat pig so we want you to wear this rubber body suit during games to get the glands working, you know, really saturate your shirt with honest to goodness BO-rich moisture. And your pressers...look, don't start them on the hour...could you schedule them to begin at, say, 9:03 or 10:07? We did some checking and you grew up in a nice middle class Santa Barbara neighborhood...could you start telling folks you are from a trailer park outside of Fresno..."

heard Buzz already started a new program at Tech.  Buzz's inbreeds.

martyconlonontherun

Yeah it's would be nice if it continues but you need someone that cares about it to be truly special event. If the new coach takes it on but doesn't have a true connection with the kids it will ring hollow and the program wouldn't be that special. You need to bring passion for things to succeed.

This is sorta what I suggested, it should be a Marquette thing, not limited to one coach.

My point was that the coach need to be cool with it. I'm not saying he has to run the thing full time I just mean he need to be there, get involved, have the players involved.

If it's just run by the athletic dept with no face time with coaches or players it doesn't give the kids much to get excited about

T-Bone

How about change it to something really non offensive and bland, like the Golden Eagles...

I think the BoD and the search committee will to someone that is supportive of Marquette's entire mission and support the community as a whole. They would never make it mandatory, but definitely would factor encourage it.
