It is hard not to be a jilted lover. I hope he crashes and burns. What a phony; relationships? Like the ones he forged over the last three-four years with his current recruits that ended in one quick, what is best for me moment?

Here is what I hear, Buzz: Relationships don't really mean anything. Because, in the end, my (Buzz's) relationship with you, recruit, is less important than my own needs and wants.

The reality is, that the above is life. However, Buzz has sold everyone on some notion that that notion doesn't apply to him.

Hypocrisy. Relationships, my rear end.

Always thought he was a really odd guy, but the realist in me has to admit that he probably is excited about going to a conference with Duke, NC, Virginia, NC State, etc, and leaving a conference with Xavier and Creighton.  He's going to a crappy team with absolutely zero expectations for success.  Any improvement he oversees will make him a hero.

The new Big East is an unglamorous turd that very few people are watching.  It sucks that MU is in this boat.  This whole situation is incredibly depressing.  

I don't think the Big East is a turd, and besides where else should Marquette go? A10? Patriot League? Good luck with all that.

Jest, fine. But a couple things to be laid out here. Marquette is a fantastic destination for a coach. But it is going to be difficult to pull in a good one when you are missing leadership at virtually every single layer of the university.

No President. No Provost. No AD. We're missing deans left and right (not that a coach would or should give two damns). This university is a great destination for all of those individuals, but not until we begin filling top-down. Marquette needs to (and has the means to) absolutely nail the hiring of the next basketball coach. But paint me as skeptical so long as we are missing a president, and I don't think we're a week away from doing so.

Listen, for those of you who have not been to VT, it is a beautiful campus and as described in another thread, very rural and family like.  But, B-ball wise, VT will get absolutely clobbered over the next few years.  It will be a tough time and life relationships in the program will be above the charts.

That's fairly reasonable, though I think if Howland is the choice - and the reports of him already lobbying for the job are legit - that settles the question of finding a good hire.

Shambles is DePaul. Shambles is what Scott Drew inherited at Baylor. Shambles is what Crean inherited at Indiana.

Agreed. Undoing much of the progress would have been a better word choice...

Stupid question pertaining to the recruits who signed LoIs...

If Buzz contacts them in any way/shape/form now that he's no longer the coach of MU, is that a recruiting violation on his/VT's part?

Is MU going to let them out of their signed LoIs?  Are they allowed to stipulate "no VT" if they are given the opportunity to de-commit as part of the conditions?

I'm of the camp that it's time to play hardball here.  If they've signed, they're coming this fall - or at least not going to VT.

2 appearances in 28 years. Last S16 in 1967. He makes a couple tournaments in a short time span and he will be crowned. The bar is seriously that low. And I think he will be in the Miami/NC State group as early as two seasons from now. That's all it will take.

But who cares what VT wants to consider a savior? If that's what he can do there, it's less than he could have done here. He can have VT. He'll never top Duke, NC, Louisville, or Cuse. So he's a 5th place player in a very good conference. Good luck to him. If he is actually making more than Beamer, he'll get torn apart if he's not delivering at the level of VT football. In addition, no self-respecting megalomaniac fball coach is going to let some megalomaniac bball coach usurp his throne. VT will never be a bball school. If Buzz wants attention, he better get it at home because VT isn't gonna give it.

We will be fine. We pay handsomely, have great facilities, a reasonable fan base (comparatively), and a great tradition.

Sorry. Didn't mean to single you out. It just seems like a lot of people are upset that he might last at VT with a mediocre record. That sounds like basketball purgatory to me.
