Michigan St should have lost in regulation. Grand Valley St. was much better and they were hindered by horrible officiating.. These werent innocent mistakes.

1) With 10 seconds left in regulation and Grand Valley St. up by 2, Michigan St has ball and Grand Valley is called with a phantom foul. Neitzel shoots free throws.

2) After Neitzel hits 2 free throws, Grand Valley St has to run the length of the floor with 4.7 seconds.  They make it to half court shoot a shot and make it but it was after the buzzerr. There is no way 4.7 secs ticked off. Big Ten network refuses to show how the 4.7 secs ticked off. The clock on the tv show two secs left after the basket was made.

Even the broadcasters paid by the Big 10 called it ridiculous.

Fortunately Michigan St loses anyway.

The center on Grand Valley is a force.

It was great to see Michigan State lose tonight.  Now I know it doesn't count, but it is very funny with the Michigan vs. Michigan State football game tomorrow.  The Spartan fans are wearing shirts that say "At least we didn't lose to Appalachian State".  This is why it isn't worth saying things like that.  Remember NDSU?

GVSU is nationally ranked in Dll.   They have had a chip on their shoulder about MSU since ALMOST beating them in East Lansing last year.   And BTW, GVSU should NEVER be scheduled as a tune-up football game by a D1 school.   GVSU could be competitive in half the D1 conferences in the country in most sports.

I completely agree. While MSU did "lose" to GVSU. GVSU is a DII Power in just about everything.  The same thing can be said about Appalachian State...

So, if we lose to IUPUI, a team picked to win their con., can I expect the same type of posts then abour our team?

no, then crean should be fired cuz he makes too much money and doesn't use the wide post and or run out 3 stiffs taller than 6"11" at once.

In this mornings Grand Rapids paper, Izzo is quoted as saying the loss is his fault, he was trying all sorts of player combinations early without really paying attention to the score.   Then goes on to commend GVSU for outrebounding and out defending State.

So, in our last game, we lost to MSU by 12...does this mean that we would lose to GVSU by 15?  Seriously, this is what is great about college hoops...whether exhibition, early season or post.  Upsets are always possible.  I think with our Canadian trip, we should avoid the early season flat tires like against Michigan Tech.  I expect we will come out like a "house a fire".

I had to do a doubletake when reading the headline!

I thought initially, "Why did someone bump the earlier fb upset from this year?" when I realized then it was MICHIGAN and APPALACHIAN STATE.

Wow. Worst officiating can make a game sway, but only when the play and effort of both teams are very close.

Sounds like MSU really was playing badly and GVS was having the best day in their bk history!

GVSU is in the same conference as Hillsdale.  Finished better than Hillsdale last year and went to the D2 Elite 8.  Anybody here remember Hillsdale?   Meaning that odd things can happen in exhibition games.   The Washington Generals occasionally rise up.

Having paid attention to Winona State a lot the last five years (2006 D2 national champion, 2007 D2 national runner-up), they would have finished in the top half of the Horizon the last two years. If Winona and Green Bay played 10 times, would be 5-5 or 6-4 one way or the other. Would be a big-time shock in a regular-season game, but in an exhibition game, not a complete shock.
GO WARRIORS!
