Got an email reporting that my alma mater, Georgetown Prep, has announced a new President. I am disappointed I was not asked for my opinion.

Oh how the mighty have fallen.

Indeed a sad day when Pilarz is or has been the figurehead at two of your alma maters, but rejoice for it shan't be long, oh mighty Keefe, until you can rise from your fall once again.

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Can the announcement that LW is the new AD be far behind?

Expect the Poetry Club to be world class.

Another of your alma mater's should be announcing a new president soon.   ;)

I was referring to Scotty's path from University President to heading up an all male boarding prep school

This isn't quite what was described in the "resignation" announcement.

Seriously. Teaching English at St. Joseph's? So can we now assume that he was cordially invited to leave MU?

From a pilot's perspective I would say that the Pilarz career flight path is losing altitude

Wow.  Tuition, room and board is $52K a year.  Not sure how this school is fulfilling the Jesuit mission here.
Have some patience, FFS.

From an accident investigation standpoint, it crashed and burned.

Pilot error was reported to be the cause!

As an alum I can assure you that the vast majority of graduates have gone on to fulfill the Jesuit ideals inculcated through a thorough, comprehensive classical education that would make Ignatius Loyola proud.

Keefe - I'm curious - any idea what % of students would be boarders? I am assuming that the school would also have a significant # of students from the DC area.

BTW, Fr. Pilarz better get to work on their BB program. Eyeballing schedule, there are a lot of Losses.

Prep has always had a 25-75 split between boarders and day schoolers. The original reason for the boarding school was to accommodate Foreign Service dependents who were posted abroad. What has evolved is that a large number of foreign Foreign Service dependents will board at Prep while their parents either return to their home capital or another overseas posting. At least 25% of the total student body is international.

Prep has its place in the galaxy of east coast prep schools but it cannot compare with Exeter, Phillips, Choate, Andover, or Groton. It is more comparable with Hotchkiss or Sidwell Friends. The bottom line is that a large number of Prep students go directly to an Ivy but many go to Jesuit schools and even Notre Dame.

As for GPrep's current hardwood performance, I am guessing the new President sees academic success in athletic mediocrity.

Thanks Keefe. Interesting to me because my wife works managing a Catholic Girls boarding HS run by the Sacred Heart order with many parallels, locals/boarders, great academics, a strong Intl representation, great college networking placement, and big bucks tuition/boarding fees.

Will make for some dinner time conversation re comparisons.

And funny re Pilarz view of BB mediocrity.

MARQKC

I think Father Pilarz is just an East Coast guy. Not everybody is comfortable in the Midwest. (Thank God, Al McGuire was.)

I'm sure that this is all just preparatory to Pilarz becoming the first civilian to head up the Air Force Academy.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Actually this has been going on for generations in the east coast prep school culture. There may be some instances motivated by athletic competition but the tradition is academic to give a leg up intellectually and emotionally for the Ivy League. Been going on since FDR was held back a year at Groton by his mother.
