Could he not attack the rim?

Not against a zone with 4 players on the same side.

Watch the end of these close games.  Everyone knows DW is just going to dribble around and eventually get rid of the ball.  So everyone else is on their man tight, and we just dribble and dribble and dribble and dribble.  Eventually the clock winds down, and DW goes into desperation mode to get rid of the ball.  It never ends up being a crisp solid pass to where someone can make something happen.  It's always a desperate handoff with no time on the clock to do anything with it.  Ugly.

For all you jags that just watch the game to tag on Derrick, Jamil had the ball in his hands and chose to give it up. So suck on that.

Regardless.  Buzz called a stupid TO. That play was horse crap AND the fact Derrick took the final shot is icing on the cake.

If he didn't call a TO you would be bitching about how he didn't call a TO and draw up a play and commenting how you can't take the TO's with you.

Why not put Dawson in the game at that point??  Anyone doubt if Dawson would have had an 75+% chance at making that easy 10' baseline jumper...even if ice cold from sitting on bench due to his 2 first half turnovers?

Give me a freaking break...Jamil chose not to "lead?"  Derrick dribbled his defender right into Jamil on a basic hand off pass 22' from the basket...Jamil absolutely made the right basketball play instead of trying to "lead" a 22' shot against 2 defenders...did the unselfish and correct thing and passed off to your boy...who wasn't even close to making a wide open 10 footer...

Does Derrick ever get ANY**** blame in your delusional world??
Of course not. Tower and Buzz are on the same page. Buzz is the man and so is Derrick.

I would be concerned that he wouldn't be able to recognize the D as a zone in that situation and know to dive to the baseline where the defensive opening is.

Due to Senior Day, will Buzz speak with Homer and Mac?

Jamil was doubled teamed. Can't blame him at all for giving up the ball.

tower912

No.  I would rather have Jamil dribble into the double team and try to force the shot than the choice he made.    He is the senior in the last game.    Rather than wanting the team on his shoulders, the game in his hands, he passed to Derrick for a shot that he had no choice but to take.    That is what all of my criticisms of Jamil this year wrapped into one play.

Certainly can make the argument either way in regards to him placing the onus on himself to get the win or making the proper basketball play and passing to an open teammate.

Despite his decent looking line, I think much more was expected from Jamil.
I, too, expected Jamil to be more of a go-getter and team leader but alas...

Buzz never speaks anyhow, he usually just spreads the bull manure after games like this.

Ask yourself this about Jamil's decision; would Lazar, Butler or Crowder have given that ball up to a horrific shooter vs taking it themselves in that situation?  Clearly Jamil isn't any of those guys, but that was kind of what he was expected to be.

If Jamil kept the ball, tried to shoot over a double team and either missed or was blocked, would anyone seriously question why he didn't pass the ball to Derrick?

mattyv1908

Jamil is Jamil.  Athough many MU fans hoped he would step into that role this season it's not in his nature to do so.  He's an athletically gifted third option who would rather let the game come to him than force it.  Can't fault him for being something he's not.

Todd Mayo was either buried on the bench or suffered through mind boggling erratic playing time most of this season when he was the only guy on this team capable of being the guy to put the team on his back.

Go back and watch the play...you really want Jamil to force that shot??  And no, I'm not sure Lazar or Butler would have taken that crap shot...Jae maybe...Jamil got ball in a terrible position as Derrick brought his defender right into the play...

And yes, as bad of shooter as Derrick is...I still would put Derrick's chances of making a wide open 10' shot better than Jamil shooting an awkward 22'+ shot through 2 defenders..

Jamil shooting while double teamed and Derrick shooting wide open from that spot have the same chance of going in the basket. At least with Jamil shooting you also have a very slim chance of a St. John's brain fart of fouling him.

Todd, Deonte and Davante force a lot of shots and we all commend them for their attacking mentality.

tower912

Jamil needed to do the bounce step through of the double team to take an 18 ft jumper.   He makes the shot, misses the shot, gets fouled.    He abdicated responsibility by making what would be a good play in the middle of the game with no shot clock issues.   Passing it to Derrick on the baseline.    However, in the context of the play, I want Jamil taking that shot 100 % of the time.

LOL - Abdicating responsibility??  Something you know a lot about and your continued narrative to never find one thing wrong with D-Will.  Wow!
