Buzz drew up a real winner play

Niv Berkowitz

For all you jags that just watch the game to tag on Derrick, Jamil had the ball in his hands and chose to give it up. So suck on that.

Class71

Do not blame the players. We were Buzzed cut again. Derrick should no have been on the floor. He plays D not O period. Buzz knows that.

SJU gagged the game for us to even get there.  Yes, it would have been nice to win it, but honestly I don't know how we were ever even in a position to win that game.  SJU fans were probably going bat crazy at the end of regulation.

That last play with MU........what can you say.  Dribbling around like there was 30 seconds on the clock, never looking to get it down low, then giving to Jamil in a tough spot, leading to D Will taking the game winner.

Hmmmm

steff_mckee

Agreed...Jamil didn't want to be the guy, but it would be nice if he could pass it someone that can make a simple 5 footer.

That one of our bigs runs the wrong play it is on the PG?  Explain that one to me.

No explanation for that but explain it to me that you have a PG on the floor who has only TWO FGs to his name over the past FOUR GAMES.

Buzz lived and died with him.

And killed a possible victory today as well as possible other games this season.

Derrick should never get major minutes ever again.

I thought Jamil made the right play considering the defense on him.  I just don't understand why it was going there in the first place with 3.5 seconds left, but maybe that's all that was available.

Can't blame someone for not being in the right place.  This is the same play we run at the end of every game.  DW dribbles around until there's 3 seconds left, and then desperately hands off to Mayo 30 feet from the basket to try some miraculous buzzer beater.  Switch Mayo for Burton and it's all just the same.

WellsstreetWanderer

I don't know what Buzz drew up but Deonte looked lost and nobody seemed to want the shot. Derrick took the open one and that's how the season went.

And THAT'S what you get for starting an offensively inept PG.

No excuses.
And we end the year with three, 3, THREE straight losses. A fantastic year of coaching by EL Buzzo. And playing an inept PG for almost the entire game.

What a huge joke and sham this year has been. Thank you Buzz.

But if you switch Mayo for Derrick and insert Burton, you may get different results.

Watching, it was obvious that it was supposed to be a pass in to Gardner on the low block.   Burton, jumping the gun by a season, went to the same spot as Davante.   Gardner went to the high block.   Wilson started a little weave.   Jamil got the ball with the 3.5 seconds left on a broken play.   Instead of attacking, he once again chose to not lead, dumping the ball off to Derrick.   Derrick had no choice but to shoot.     Blame on that last sequence falls first to Burton and then to Jamil.

The possession that lost this game was the Todd's miss right before he fouled out.  Derrick looked scared to have the ball, Gardner wanted NOTHING to do with the ball, so Todd, the only one who was actually playing out there was forced to drive on 3 defenders so we at least got a shot off.

Btw, that possession falls as much on Gardner as DW.  Gardner did nothing down the stretch except get a paint touch and pass immediately.

I agree.  Jamil was Doubled and passed to the open player.  Unfortunately that player was dwill

Really shows how bad we hurt with not having Mayo.  Play should have been designed for Burton.  I really did want shot to fall for Derrick as much as the team...would have been a huge win...and nice for Derrick.  Another bitter pill to swallow after Providence..

The play was designed to either go to Jake in the corner on a double screen, or get the ball to Burton in the high post with Gardner in the low post.

St. John's came out showing man (they probably had two different plays one for man the other for zone).  So they went with the play I outline above.

Despite showing man, St. John's switched to a zone.  Zone play was likely Burton at the FT line with Gardner down low, either Burton takes it to the hole or dumps it down to Gardner.

It looked like Burton was confused as if St. John's was running a zone or man.  He was trying to figure out what to do...Gardner ran to the high post to try to rescue the play (recognizing zone), but it was too late.  Derrick had to do something wen to the opposite weak side (smart too many players on the strong side) to get it to Jamil.  They double Jamil so he has to kick to the open man...happens to be Derrick who takes the shot.

Not on Buzz.  It is the problem of having a freshman playing in a tough situation (Mayo out) and St. John's doing a great job disguising the defense....that's Basketball, we came out on the losing end this time.

That's the problem.

Derrick dribbled too much to begin with and then passed to Jamil in a bad spot.  Now, Jamil could have taken the last shot, but it would have been tough.  It sure would help if your starting PG was at least an adequate shooter.

PE8983

Are we actually going to get another year of the same PG play?  It's a long way to Nov 2015...

But he will, game after game after game. The stubborn loyalty of El Buzzo.

Anyone who thought Jamil was gonna take that shot is still drinking the Kool-Aid. He's got one, maybe 2 more games left, then maybe a career in Europe with some stints in D-League.

Paul Stanley recently said of Ace Frehley that he "threw away his gift." As did Jamil.

Once it was obvious D. Wilson was gonna shoot the game winner I wanted to see if Lavin was already at half-court laughing. No one even thought that shot was ever gonna have a chance at falling.

BINGO.  Lots of standing around and not a whole lot of movement on that last play for my tastes.  No one wanted to step up.  If JWill takes that shot, it would be a very difficult shot.  I don't mind that he dumped it off considering the time on the clock, what bothered me was the previous 10 seconds where no one was doing much of anything.

Honestly, I thought MU lost in regulation except for a gifting by the Johnnies.

When Burton and Davante went to the exact same spot and Jake was covered in the corner, Derrick did not have any option but more dribbling.

Could he not attack the rim?

With two offensive players and 4 defenders between him and the rim?   would have ended about the same.

Give me a freaking break...Jamil chose not to "lead?"  Derrick dribbled his defender right into Jamil on a basic hand off pass 22' from the basket...Jamil absolutely made the right basketball play instead of trying to "lead" a 22' shot against 2 defenders...did the unselfish and correct thing and passed off to your boy...who wasn't even close to making a wide open 10 footer...

Does Derrick ever get ANY**** blame in your delusional world??
