Jamil Wilson is the most disappointing player I have ever watched. I honestly don't think he's any better than he was as a Sophomore. Compare:

YEAR     FG%    3P%    FT%    REB/40MIN  AST/40MIN  BLK/40MIN  STL/40MIN  PF/40MIN  TO/40MIN
2011-12  44.8%  34.5%  70.7%  6.87       1.90       2.29       1.22       4.68      1.80
2012-13  44.4%  36.0%  74.4%  7.72       2.68       1.36       0.91       3.81      2.32
2013-14  43.2%  31.8%  68.0%  8.08       3.49       0.70       0.85       4.19      2.54

It can't really be quantified, but I don't think his decision making or leadership have improved either. He has an NBA body and I believe he has NBA-level ability, but for whatever reason he is stuck in the mold of an undeveloped Sophomore.

GGGG

He peaked compared to his peers in high school.  He doesn't have the quickness or the shot consistency to play in the NBA.  Good guy.  Solid player.   There isn't some vast about of untapped potential.  He is who he is.

jesmu84

Jamil may prove Ners' adage wrong that more minutes/usage = better results.

WarriorFan

Jamil has a weak game.  Not fit for the big east.  Should have stayed at Oregon.

Every pre-game, the analysts bring up Jamil and how he has potential and is really needed for MU to win. Every game.

He goes for 25 against Seton Hall, 18 against Xavier, yet had 1 point against St. Johns.

Last two games he is 2 for 11 with one basket each game.  Just don't get it, but two games to go and maybe someone can get in his head or something.

There was a reason teams backed off Jamil his sr yr in h.s. The concern was his heart and ability to be consistent. While he has had great moments, he has IMHO proven all those guys right.

MilWarrior

I think he greatly benefited from playing with some true studs (Vander, DJO, Jae). Unfortunately he doesn't have the personality of the other 3 - he just disappears and seems disinterested at times. Definitely not an alpha dog. If he doesn't do something in the next couple of weeks, he will most likely be remembered as an underachiever. Here's hoping he steps it up.

MarquetteFan94

He is incredibly frustrating to watch.  Constantly beat off the dribble on D, non-existent the last two games.

More frustrating senior year.....Merritt or J Wilson?

Both regressed, I'd say Wilson based on the potential he had to carry this team on his back - just doesn't have it.

Wow, Merritt is a good comparison.

We will miss jamil and Gardner next year.  Wrap it up.  Without Wilson we are not tied for 3rd
You heard it here first. Davante Gardner will be a Beast this year.

Not saying he isn't a good player or that we won't miss him next season. I'm just disappointed because most players with his ability as a sophomore are scoring 15-20 per game as a senior, and don't regress on the defensive end. Before the season it seemed reasonable to hope for 18 points, 7 rebounds, and above-average to lockdown defense from Jamil. Instead we got an extremely inconsistent 11.7/5.6 with mediocre defense.

avid1010

he needed to be a stud (nba level player) this year and it didn't happen.  his lack of progress/productivity probably surprised me the most. while i think not having a point guard hurt his game, and is the biggest detriment to this team, he has been the biggest surprise to me as not being able to put together a full season of ball.  it's unfortunate for him...imho he is plenty quick if he's able to hit the 3.  doesn't have the body of jae, but certainly quicker/more athletic.

MUfan12

Been the same player since HS. Able to dominate at times, but disappears for long stretches at a time.

Jamil to me is the biggest reason for this team under performing. I expected him to take the senior jump and be the guy to carry the team, instead he has regressed and at times looks lost. Very disappointing. Still like the guy alot but he has not shown up this year. Sultan is correct he is what he is, but this year he is worse.

The play in the 1st 1/2 were the ball was going out of bounds on vill and he decides to grab it and he stepped on the foul line was a play sr's should not make.

Yeah, I was kind of thinking that. The big difference, though, was Merritt had shoulder issues and off season surgery before his senior year.

Not aware of any injuries of that type of serious nature for Wilson.  I actually think Wilson has more God given talent.

WayOfTheWarrior

If only we could implant Deonte's determination, desire, and aggression into Jamil.

Potential Big East POY candidate, 20+ ppg, solid team leader... I might be overstating it a little, but seriously, any genetic scientists in the house?

Not overstating. Yesterday I watched a gilligans island episode where a mad scientist turned Gilligan into mr howell,  so we know it CAN be done.

I would like to do the same with Jake and Mayo. Could we please just put Jake's brain and heart into Todd's skilled body.

As for Jamil, Jae Crowder he definitely is not.

Which small conference is that, and is an automatic bid on the line?

As Al once said about Bernard Toone, he did less with more than any other player I coached. Same is true of Jamil. Achieved less with more talent than anyone I have seen in a L-O-N-G time.

It's not just determination and desire.  He simply doesn't have the ability.  How often has Jamil successfully taken anyone off the dribble this year?  Once or twice?

I think it's a little early to be giving Deonte credit for all this "drive and determination."  Pretty small sample size this year. Not saying he doesn't have it, but I'll need a little more proof.  (And no, don't need 5 years to judge!)

Hairy...what about that plastic surgery on Kim Novak? OUCH!
