That is MY POINT.

He waited until they are gone. Then said that they were not that good. Yet in reality, without them...we are fighting to even stay on the bubble.

How in the world are you not seeing this? Are you satisfied with being a desperation tourney team?

It's obnoxious the way he talks up someone like Derrick but bases Davante. He did it last game too saying Davante was "not smart" giving the ball to a 47% free throw shooter.

IT WAS BUZZ WHO PUT THE 47% FREE THROW SHOOTER IN THE GAME. How is it Davante's fault he found the open man that BUZZ put on the court?

Good Christ, take a Valium.

He does what he can to motivate his playes. Besides that does anyone here think Gardner is an overall good defensive player? He is decent in the low block, but has limitations as his player takes the ball outside.
And so does Otule--so what is the point.

Agreed Hayward. He disses Gardner for throwing the ball to Buzz's gamechanging PG--who cannot shoot FT's--or shoot period... and is only in there because of Buzz's lovefest for him. More Buzz Williams BS. But most cannot see through that BS. He says whatever he wants to justify his decisions, even if they are logically ridiculous.

Does he beat on Jamil? Did he ever beat on DJO? Butler? Before that one comment about Blue/Jr/Trent being average, a comment you're totally taking out of context, did he beat on Trent and Jr last year? There's plenty of good players he didn't beat on because they didn't need that motivation.

This has nothing to do with them being good/bad.  It has to do with what makes these players tick.
Well, if it has to do with what makes these players tick--he is batting less than 50/50. He is not getting Jamil and Mayo to tick consistently as both are wildly inconsistent. And he never says anything negative about either. How is he doing with Juan who is performing well below where he should be at this point of his career. Same could be said about Taylor. And by the way, all three need motivation. Buzz has totally given up on Triple J this year. So Buzz's motivational techniques, whatever in hell they are still have a long way to go. But thanks for sticking up for Buzz--we did not know he was such a psychological expert.

Haywards, why are you getting so wrapped up in a few off-handed comments during a post game radio interview?

Sometimes, the answer is hidden in the question.    (hint: "Haywards")
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

It is better to be fearless and cheerful than cheerless and fearful.

And you are?  By and large Buzz has been making the same comments about the same players every year they've been here.  Where were you the last 5 years complaining about Buzz's use of post game comments?

NavinRJohnson

I agree. This thread is obnoxious.

GoldenCoachD

Yes, Buzz did say publicly that he rips on Gardener by calling him "Avante". In his post-game interview with Homer True after the game he IMMEDIATELY followed that comment by mentioning how well Otule has been playing on the defensive end, and the idea of putting Otule in for defensive purposes "hurts Davante's feelings". Buzz then said that he feels that drives Gardener to become a better defender. He also added that the same goes with Otule and his part on the offensive end.

As much as Buzz loves Wilson (and I agree he plays too many minutes for what he brings to the court), He's simply a better defender than any of our other guards. Buzz recognizes that we are a bubble team at best, and because of that he has to coach EVERY game on a possession by possession basis. He, himself, said that he must "treat every possession as if it were the most important one in the game."

Buzz also said that MU is finally starting to play to their strengths and avoid their weaknesses. Wilson took one shot yesterday, and missed, but got to the line 6 times. The alternative, Dawson, missed all four shots, (which includes a layup and a poor decision on a 3 early in the shot clock).

Dawson will learn, and improve. But for now, Buzz really only has Wilson to carry the point guard role since Duane is injured.

"We call him 'Avante' because he does not have any 'D'...."

Keep justinfying it all you want Buzz.

HE IS YOUR BEST GODDAMN PLAYER. Offense. Defense. HE IS YOU BEST PLAYER.

I know, I am not a college basketball coach(since this is a turning point for you wadesworld)  and you Buzz have done fantastic in your 6 years here. But this year is getting obnoxious.

STOP, finding reasons to pile on Davante. STOP going to creepy lengths to defend Derrick(hes playing well right now, just the defense mode from B is weird). Most importantly STOP starting Chris and Juan together.

They may be great people. They may come to practice and play hard. But, this is not 6th grade in house basketball. Play your best guys.

I should be just enjoying this win but this comment really pissed me off.

Why can't our good players get complements?

I just realized that you said in another thread that you were intoxicated for a good portion of the game.

I really do suggest that you no longer post here when drunk.  Take it or leave it.

I completely disagree.  We lost three good (not great) two-way players.  No one this year has stepped up replace them.  I believe the lack of 2-way players, which forces constantly changing lineups, combined with little upperclass leadership, are the basic problems of this year's team.

Plus, you, I and most of this Board have no issue criticizing players behind the anonymity of Scoop.  If you don't object to that, why do you object to Buzz, who is with these players every day, saying what he did publicly?

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

I never claimed to be, but plenty here are saying Buzz is a motivational genius/stud. I have been talking about Buzz's BS for a long time. Your comment indicates you want more. I would expect better out of a slurper who blindly believes everything the guy says. And others on this board note how Buzz disses certain players and others he only raves about. I did hear one bit of frankness from Buzz in past few weeks. He did comment on how he knows that Derrick can't shoot.

Aren't you the one blindly believing everything he says by taking his comments about Davante/Derrick/etc at face value and criticizing him for it?

Again, thanks for the name calling.

HH, This is the point that you somehow completely missed. He's saying it to motivate. By telling Davante he can't play D, he is way more motivated to work his ass off to get to the point where Buzz will play him on D. Same with Otule and offense. It's a coaching technique.

What I have learned here is it is ok for some coaches to criticize players publicly.....not so ok for others.   Mileage will vary based on driving conditions.
