Look, I hope you are all right. Because I will hoopaloop this thread if Buzz leaves, and I hope you do live up to your word. But I know there will be plenty who turn on him.

There is some mighty fine delusion in this thread between all the self righteous patting on the back of what upstanding and understanding individuals people perceive themselves to be. There will be hate. That's just what Marquette people do even if it doesn't come out on April 21st, it will arise not long after departure.

Tom kept telling MU how much he loved it here.  How it was family, etc, etc, etc.

75% of the alumni wanted Rick gone.
KO never gave the idea that he would stay.
Buzz opening bitches about fans booing and annoying emails.

I think the past TC lovers were surprised bc they never saw it coming.  I wasn't a fan from day 1.  Part of that was my unabashed love of Mike Deane.  Part of that was me having family work for him and it confirmed almost everything I ever suspected.
Wow--have not seen any posts ever confirming an unabashed love for Deane! He definitely was a pretty good coach, and certainly a real character. Just could not recruit that well in his period.

A real good thread to start would be to rank MU Coaches all time in being characters/flakes. McGuire, Deane, O'Neil, and Majerus would definitely be up there. Crean would be further down as IMO he was just a prima donna.

If Buzz leaves in the spring during the normal coaching carousel time, I will go on record as still respecting and liking him.

If he pulls a Majerus or leaves in Sept, etc., I reserve the right to change my tune.

Buzz may look stylish in a gold jacket, but no one could rock the fuchsia leisure suit like McGuire back in the day. Takes a real man to wear pink pants and giant pink lapels in front of 12,000 people.

Found a picture of the jacket

Thanks for the pic.  I appreciate it.  Buzz has had some great jackets for national Marquette Day.

By far my favorite was the powder blue he was rocking for the sideline dance after DJO's putback dunk vs. Louisville. Was that national Marquette day too?

Living up to my word. I was told that a majority of people will wish Buzz well when he leaves. I didn't believe them. Sad to see that I was right

Why would lots of people wish him well? The guy is as fake as a $3 bill. He's been looking to leave for 3 years. It's one thing to go to a better job, but to leave for Va Tech is just embarrassing. The last laugh is going to be on him, when we upgrade and land Shaka.

Because whatever he was, he still left our program in better shape than when he took over.

I choose to evaluate a coach on his entire tenure, not just how he left.

I thought of this thread when Buzz left. I was right there with you on not believing people were going to be well wishers first and foremost when it happened. At MU, there is always hate. For most it fades quickly. For some, it lingers for six years.

I wish him well!

But on the subject of this thread...was his willingness to give that jacket away a sign of something?
