Buzz, get off the floor.   Jsheim, start another thread and ask the question.
Luke 6:45   ...A good man produces goodness from the good in his heart; an evil man produces evil out of his store of evil.   Each man speaks from his heart's abundance...

Thanks....good pic. Love the jacket.

--> I'm not an Alum...been in Milwaukee only 8 years...so maybe there's something I'm missing about MU culture and history....but I don't understand the hate for Crean? I don't think its warranted. Will people hate Buzz if he goes to Texas or wherever to coach one day?
People will not hate Buzz because he's not an a--hole. Will people hate Crean when he leaves Bloomington? Yes.

It is only a matter of time but Buzz will leave someday. One way or another. I cannot imagine his departure being anything like the disaster of the Bronzed Beast, no matter the reason for his leaving.

If anyone ever had any doubt that Tanned Tommy is a gutless piece of s hit all they need do is watch his post game pressers these days after yet another loss. He puts the blame squarely on his players. Character isn't displayed in dress blues on the parade ground but in the blood, guts, and muck of the battlefield.

Tom Crean's understanding of leadership begins and ends with the superficial. Everything he does is cosmetic. Even his bizarre attack on Jeff Meyer was contrived. There was nothing genuine about that - it was staged to underscore the brilliance of his turnaround success. As always, it is all about Tanned Tommy.

Not this fan, but I didn't/don't dislike TC because he left or because of how he left. Tom Crean will be a phony wherever he coaches, just as Buzz will be genuine no matter who is signing his checks.

I didn't care about Crean's personality. I just didn't think he could coach in the last in a game - and this year has certainly shown that to be the case.

If he leaves in July, he'll be revered.  If he leaves with a Tennessee sweatshirt on and public bitching about the university, we might build a statue for him.

It's all in the how.

Agree, as i stated i dont dislike Crean for leaving or really "how" he left. I hated that insufferable a-hole long before he left. Anyone can look up my posts from that period, i was happy n stated it was a good thing for MU for numerous reasn.
Additionally, buzz will leave someday, but i will always respect him n root for him.  Apples n oranges comparison.
How many people hated kevin oneill when he left?? Not anyone i can remember, i and i think others questioned was tennessee really the place to go and felt he could have had a much better gig if he had kept it rolling at MU.  But i respected him and what he had done for MU and despite his brashness me n many others liked him n rooted for him.

Crean did that when he was at MU and we still loved him. I was at MU when Crean left and before that, we worshiped the ground he walked on.

All the little eccentricities we currently love about Buzz will become character flaws if he leaves us for another job.

It's just like how most men say all their exes are crazy. We will get another coach and the fan base will claim that he is twice the man that Buzz ever was. We will hate Buzz for saying his player suck. We will hate Buzz for "Buzz cutting" Newbill. We will hate him for dancing on opponents' floors after victories. We will hate him for whatever role he had in the sexual assault cases years ago.

Really, we will just hate him for leaving. I'm not condoning it. I will always love Buzz. But I still appreciate TC. Many of the same fans trashing TC will turn on Buzz the second he leaves. The only way to be remembered fondly in this business is to start coaching and retire at the same school.

Fortunately, I don't think this will matter because I truly think that Buzz will be at Marquette for a long long time.

Not everyone worshipped Crean when he was at MU. A lot of people on this board saw through him years ago. When I met Crean he was always looking over my shoulder as if he was expecting someone more important to show up. My wife was a bloody saint and even she said he was odd.

I think that if Buzz leaves Marquette for another coaching job the majority here will wish him well. That is if he is man enough to submit his resignation to his employer in person then sit down with his team so that they hear it from him rather than the ESPN crawl. But there is nothing we have seen from him that would suggest he would do it in anything but an honorable way.

Crean's gutless slither out of Milwaukee was in keeping with his overall lack of character. At a minimum, he owed Fr. Wild the courtesy of a face-to-face meeting. Marquette provided Crean with an opportunity that led to multi-generational wealth. A man with integrity would have known the correct course of action. His actions were not just wanting; in some quarters they would be seen as cowardly.

Didn't love or worship Crean. Appreciated the way he came in and helped rebuild the program. Thought he left on a bad note but I wished him no ill. I was happy that he hired Buzz and thought Buzz had a chance to be a good coach but didn't really know. After three years, it was pretty obvious that Buzz was a better coach and certainly a better person. I do not love or worship Buzz but I think he's a good coach who seems to be a good (albeit strange) guy, and I'm glad he's coaching my alma mater's team. When he leaves I won't hate him, though I hope he leaves in a more upstanding way than Crean did. I still don't hate Crean, but I do like to make jokes about him, just as I like to joke about everything and everyone. And I happened to think the link to the IU fan board was great entertainment.

There. That just about sums it up.

Tamu... Gonna have to disagee with you.  My guess is 18-22 year old students due to their youth n naivete may not have seen Crean as the same guy that people his age or older saw him as.  As i stated earlier , i never rooted against kevin oneill when he left and i dont yhink many other people did either.  Always cheered hard for rick majerus wherever he was.   You root for the man and i rooted for kevin and i will root for buzz.  Heck i rooted for mike deane too.  Will always root against crean, guy is an a-hole

Not as many people hate KO... he was clearly an up and comer at MU and was clearly going to use it as a stepping stone but he also tangibly improved the program so when he left he left with good wishes.,

Dukiet was a horrendous coach, but he was a real guy.  Enjoyed a drink or 20, played a mean piano, and was never to be taken seriously.  When he left the program, no-one was upset.

Crean wanted to be taken seriously, he wanted to be the man, and the problem was he was a politician, and not a basketball coach.  I can't remember how many games he lost for MU by being a horrible game coach, but it was 2-3 per year.  It's hard to take someone seriously when the hype and the reality are so far apart.  So, it's not surprising that people are mad at him after he's gone.

Buzz... well that's a high standard to live up to, even if you're Buzz.  I hope it's for real.  Us Warrior fans have been taught a high tolerance for quirky coaches after Al and Hank and Rick.  For Buzz I still predict a national championship followed by a retirement... because that's the way it's supposed to work at MU.  Two would also be OK.

Perhaps the most important difference between Buzz and Crean is potential. We Marquette fans genuinely believe Buzz has the ability to win a National Title at Marquette. Bloody difficult proposition but we believe in Buzz.

A cursory read of the IU boards makes clear their fan base has come to the stark realization that Crean is not the man to win a championship. That is usually the beginning of the end at Indiana.

Tom kept telling MU how much he loved it here.  How it was family, etc, etc, etc.

75% of the alumni wanted Rick gone.
KO never gave the idea that he would stay.
Buzz opening bitches about fans booing and annoying emails.

I think the past TC lovers were surprised bc they never saw it coming.  I wasn't a fan from day 1.  Part of that was my unabashed love of Mike Deane.  Part of that was me having family work for him and it confirmed almost everything I ever suspected.
