Is it just me or are there some NBA continuation calls this season?   I feel like I've seen several the last few games.

Last night Burton was fouled on the court, took another step, made the shot and was given the and 1. The following play Derrick fouled a Butler player near the free throw line.  The Butler player took another few steps, made the shot, and was given the and 1.

Is this an attempt to make the game more similar to the NBA (like the new hand checking rules) or just sloppy officiating?

Its been happening for several years now.  Guys are taking a whole lot of extra steps.  Traveling and turning the ball over are things of the past....

Agreed, I have not been a fan of the switch to a more NBA like reffing experience (albeit with substantially worse refs).  Traveling is gone.  Continuation appears here to stay.  Some of the continuation calls have become absolutely absurd.

Personally I've felt like they're calling more travels than ever before.  Or we just are actually traveling more.

We actually travel a ridiculous amount.  We're very lucky we don't get called for more.  I think JJJ traveled about 10 times last game and would consider Jamil famous for his extra steps that don't get called.

Great observation.  It is unreal the continuations we've seen in the last 3 or 4 games alone.  I'm waiting for the old ABA rule of 3 to make 2 rule to be reinstated...

I can't believe that number of times I now see kids that once they start to drive on the hoop, they tuck the ball away on their hip to protect it until they get airborne.

I love the continuation.  In almost all other sports continuation is rewarded.  In Freestyle and Greco Roman Wresting you can start a technique or throw inside the circle and finish way out of bounds as long as you started the throw inside the circle.   You should be rewarded for drawing contact on a drive and making the bucket.

I love the continuation.  In almost all other sports continuation is rewarded.  In Freestyle and Greco Roman Wresting you can start a technique or throw inside the circle and finish way out of bounds as long as you started the throw inside the circle.   You should be rewarded for drawing contact on a drive and making the bucket.

Yeah, Jamil really does take that extra step ( or two )...

It still takes me by surprise when they call the continuation foul, but as long as it is consistently applied it is good for the game.  Anything that discourages grabbing and restricting freedom of movement is good for the entertainment value of the game.

Your example requires that Davante actually play defense so ain't gonna happen.

That continuation play really bothered me though for a couple of reasons. First he got fouled above the elbow. Secondly on his way to making the "continuation layup" he traveled as well.

Technical? Flagrant? Those can occur outside of the play, right? But is the "play" still ongoing after the first foul?

Dr. J killed traveling in the pro game - man, he ALWAYS took 3 steps. I've also had the thought lately that we're seeing some borderline continuation calls - maybe these guys want to be like the NBA refs.
