Last year the moment our season turned around was at home against Syracuse when Jake hit the 3 and was fouled for a four point play.  Won the game and that launched us Into the tourney and the Elite 8

Was Todd's shot tonight this year's equivalent moment?  If so, let see what it leads to.

I disagree strongly.

Jake's 4-point play vs Syracuse came midway through the first half and brought us within 4. You do know that Cuse went back out to a 7-point lead on several occasions, right? We were losing 53-46 with less than 8 minutes to play when Todd made two huge 3-pointers and Davante also nailed a couple of 17-foot jumpers. Jake's shot was important, but to equate a first-half 4-point play to a game-tying 3 with 6 seconds left that, if it misses, means certain defeat? Please.

Todd's shot was more like Junior's big 3 that saved us against UConn and set the tone for a successful conference season. Let's hope Todd's sets the same tone!

Buzz called jake's shot the biggest one of the year.

That shot energized a dead building, after MU had a huge scoring drought. If it doesn't happen, the game could have easily gotten away from them.

Regardless, two big plays. How big for this season remains to be seen.

Mayo's shot tonight did not win the game, without it we lose (obviously).  Similarly, Jake's shot last year did not win the game but without it we lose.

Jake's shot turned around our fortunes against Cuse, we won the game and the entire complexion of the season changed.

Mayo's shot tonight has the chance to be this year's equivalent moment.

I am 100% sure that without Mayo's shot we lose.

I am 100% certain that even after Jake's shot cut Syracuse's lead to 4 in the first half, Syracuse was completely unfazed, quickly built the lead back up to 7 and still led by 7 with 8 minutes to go in the game -- about an hour after Jake's shot.

As for Buzz calling that shot the biggest of the year, Buzz also said Derrick should start over Junior and said Davante often didn't deserve to play. Buzz says lots of things. If he actually thinks a first-half shot in a February game was more important than either of Vander's game-winning shots, he should be fired immediately for total lack of basketball knowledge. But he didn't really think that, just as he didn't really start Derrick over Junior.

This is a silly conversation to have after a wonderful win, but it always bugs me a little when people try to make more of things than they are. Jake's shot was a pleasant surprise and got the crowd going and it gave us a temporary boost on the scoreboard.

When Mayo hit HIS 3-pointer with about 7 minutes to play in the very same game, that started the winning rally. But yeah, Jake's was more important. ?-(

Cadougan's UCONN shot was bigger.   Jake's was also big, but in a different way.   MU was well on it's way to getting it's doors blown off before it happened.
When we stop talking, really bad stuff happens.

I'd have to say Junior's shot is a better analogy.

When Junior hit the three, it turned a likely loss into an overtime game that we went on to win. So did Todd's.

And going into the UConn game, it was still unclear whether we were even a tournament team.  We were coming off the nonconference season with a 9-3 record that included an embarassing loss to Green Bay, and heading into the BE expected to finish no better than the middle of the pack.  That win got many people starting to think that we might be a tourney team after all, and triggered a nice run to start the BE season.  Same situation last night, but perhaps even more desperate -- a few games into a disappointing early BE campaign, quickly approaching "must win" territory.  If we can ride the momentum like we did last year, we can get right back into the thick of the BE race.  On he other hand, by the time of the Cuse game, we were 19-7 and 10-4 in the BE.  It was a huge win to be sure...but most people knew we were worthy of a dance ticket before the game even started.

I'd say last night's game was far closer to the UConn situation than the Cuse one....

I agree strongly. Hoping for same results to follow as well.
